• Polonnaruwa Vatadage - Located to the east of the Cultural Triangle, Polonnaruwa follows the Anuradhapura era as the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Although the Polonnaruwa legacy lasted only two centuries, the impressive monuments and monasteries it left behind demonstrate its unforgettable dynasty. The archaeological remains at Polonnaruwa are displayed at the Museum of the Central Cultural Fund and its visitor center.
  King Vijayabahu I played a pivotal role by defeating the Chola invaders and reclaiming the land after 52 years. He dedicated his long reign to restoring the country. However, Polonnaruwa is predominantly known as King Parakramabahu’s city. He constructed walls to encircle the city and enhanced the fortifications of its inner city. The magnificent Parakramabahu tank was created by linking and expanding three former tanks of Polonnaruwa.
