Sailing with Legends: A Day on Cyprus’s Blue Lagoon Cruise
When the allure of Cyprus’s Blue Lagoon called, I couldn’t resist. Join me as I recount a day of sun-soaked adventure, swimming, and dining with the legendary Captain Elvis.
Setting Sail with Captain Elvis
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself standing at the scenic harbor of Latchi, ready to embark on a journey that promised to be as thrilling as it was relaxing. The Blue Lagoon Cruise was calling my name, and I was more than ready to answer. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but this was a different kind of adventure. The promise of sight-seeing, swimming, and dining in the beautiful waters of Cyprus was too enticing to resist.
Captain Elvis, the charismatic owner of the cruise, greeted us with a warm smile and a twinkle in his eye. His reputation preceded him, and I was eager to see if the stories of his legendary hospitality were true. As it turned out, they were. The bus was full, so Captain Elvis personally picked us up in his sleek Mercedes, giving us a mini-tour of the island on our way to the boat. His stories of a 40-year career in the sea cruise business were as captivating as the views.
A Day in Paradise
Once aboard, the boat was a sight to behold. Spotlessly clean and well-equipped, it was clear that Captain Elvis and his team took pride in their work. There were plenty of sunbeds and seating areas, perfect for lounging and soaking up the sun. The bar was a treasure trove of spirits, wines, beers, and cocktails that seemed to flow endlessly. As someone who appreciates a good drink after a day of surfing, I was in heaven.
The cruise took us past Aphrodite’s Baths, a place steeped in myth and beauty, before anchoring at the famous Blue Lagoon. The water was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, inviting us to dive in and explore. The boat provided everything we needed for a perfect swim stop: life jackets, noodles, kayaks, and even a massive inflatable water slide. It was a playground for both the young and the young at heart.
Dining and Departure
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, we were treated to a buffet meal that was as delicious as it was plentiful. Fresh seasonal fruits and a BBQ feast awaited us, and I couldn’t help but indulge. The staff, ever attentive and friendly, made sure we had everything we needed, whether it was a refill on our drinks or assistance with the water activities.
The day was drawing to a close, but Captain Elvis had one more surprise in store. He personally drove us back to our hotel, stopping for coffee and cakes along the way. It was a gesture that spoke volumes about his character and the genuine care he has for his guests. As we parted ways, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience and the memories made.
For those of you who, like me, have a deep connection with the ocean and a love for adventure, the Blue Lagoon Cruise is an experience not to be missed. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a first-time explorer, Captain Elvis and his team will make sure your day is nothing short of perfect.
