- Apollonia Archaeological Park - Apollonia is a significant archaeological park located in the heart of Albania. In ancient times, it was a prominent Greek city, established in 588 BC by Greek settlers from Corfu and Corinth. The city truly thrived during the Roman era.
By the 4th century AD, Apollonia had become a vital economic hub and trading center, renowned for its esteemed school of philosophy. Cicero, the famous Roman orator, described Apollonia as “a great and important city.” It also served as a crucial gateway to the Via Egnatia, a Roman trade route through the Balkans.
The ruins of Apollonia were rediscovered in the early 19th century. The park is situated on a hilly plateau, surrounded by serene natural beauty.

It is located within the castle walls in the largest church on the site, known as “the Church of the Dormition of St. Mary.” The museum is named “Onufri” after the renowned Albanian fresco and icon painter.
