A Journey Through Time and Taste

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can captivate both adults and children alike. Climbing to New Heights

The second leg of our tour took us up the mountain to Pluma Hidalgo, a journey that was as comfortable as it was scenic, thanks to Alberto’s air-conditioned van. Our first stop was a botanical garden that Alberto is developing, a lush paradise filled with vanilla, ginger, and a variety of tropical plants. Alberto’s background in biology shone through as he shared his knowledge of the plants and their medicinal properties. It was a learning experience that even my kids found fascinating, as they marveled at the different plants and their uses.

In Pluma Hidalgo, we had the chance to sample some of the finest coffee and mezcal at Pluma Diamanté. The rich flavors were a treat for the senses, and it was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the local coffee culture. We also visited the village church, Ave Maria, with its vibrant blue interior and exquisite crystal chandelier. It was a serene and beautiful space that left a lasting impression on all of us.

A Feast for the Senses

Before heading back down the mountain, we stopped for lunch at Finca Don Gabriel, where we indulged in a delicious Oaxacan tasting platter. The food was a feast for both the palate and the eyes, set against a picture-perfect backdrop. Although not included in the tour, it was reasonably priced and well worth the visit. It was the perfect way to end our day, savoring the flavors of Oaxaca while surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

Alberto was an attentive and knowledgeable guide, ensuring that every moment of our tour was enjoyable and enriching. His passion for the region and its history was evident, and it made our experience all the more memorable.
