Fantastic hosts, incredible coffee, stunning mountain views. - Oscar & Pablo were excellent hosts. Oscar picked us up from our hotel and drove us up to Pluma Hidalgo with a stop in Santa Maria, Huatulco, to see the church & a market. Oscar provided plenty of local knowledge and Pablo educated us and our small group about his family's coffee plantation. The coffee is incredible and I couldn't leave without taking some home. Highly recommended. Would do again. Latte, the puppy, stole the show.

Fun, enriching and educational - the coffee and lunch were great too! - We spent a lovely day with our guide from Top Tours Huatulco, Abigail or Abby. Abby spoke English well and we were able to use Google Translate a few times when the subject or works were more complicated. Abby also was patient and helpful with our Spanish and we were appreciative! We stopped to explore two towns before arriving at the Pablo's coffee cafe and plantation. Abby was welcoming and shared history and other helpful information about the area. The coffee plantation tour was educational and interesting. We learned a lot and will appreciate our coffee even more after this experience. Lunch back at the cafe was peaceful and delicious with even more information about roasting, distribution and sales. Thank you to Abby (and Pablo) for a wonderful day. We would book again with Abby.

More than anticipated - This is was a great experience. While the coffee tour is the main attraction, the trip up the mountain was really cool. We were able to stop and see the different churches and town squares along the way. The food is 200 pesos, but it is well worth it, as it is a great home-cooked meal. The guides were great and we really enjoyed their hospitality.

DO IT! - A real must do. This was not only an incredibly insightful day of coffee discoveries but a perfect way to discover the Oaxaca mountains, eat top top caliber food, and learn about the Oaxaca region more generally. Oscar and Pablo are an incredible duo, each bringing their own expertise to the day. Stop debating and do this!!

Oscar and Top Tours Hualtulco are the absolute best! - An excellent full day tour from start to finish. Along the way we stopped at Santa Maria Hualtulco to take in the charming square and historic church and made our way to Pluma Hildalgo for coffee tasting and a tour of a 4th generation owned coffee finca. We saw the process of nurturing the seeds to plants and got to see other beautiful flora grown in amongst the coffee bushes. The lunch of sopes and hibiscus juice provided by the family was absolutely delicious and plentiful. Oscar is a wonderful tour guide and ambassador for the area and is happy to share his vast knowledge with guests. Last year we did a tour with him to the bays and it was equally amazing. We loved everything about both tours. Take one, or all, you will not be disappointed.

A very special day with a wonderful tour guide - What a unique and very special day we spent with Oscar yesterday. His friendly easy going manner and excellent English immediately helped us to feel very safe and comfortable. Oscar promptly picked us up in his comfortable and very clean van which was loaded with water and soft drinks. On the way to Pluma Hidalgo he shared loads of information about the Huatulco area. We stopped to see the church at Santa Maria Huatulco and then we began the climb to Pluma Hidalgo in the Sierra Madres at 1300 m above sea level . The landscape changed from dry to lush green and the mountain views were wonderful. The road was rough and being worked on in several spots but Oscar expertly and safely navigated us. We were fortunate to enjoy delicious coffee and sweet buns with Pablo and his family in Pluma, and later on, an authentic lunch of mini tacos, quesadillas, beans and cooked vegetables. Delicious! During Pablo's extensive tour of his family coffee plantation, we walked the trails and learned about every step of coffee planting to roasting. Oscar translated the words of this very hard working and passionate coffee grower. When we are back home in Canada sipping Pablo's coffee, we will remember all the love and hard work that went into producing it. Thank you Oscar Jiminez for this beautiful experience!

We just arrived to Pluma... - We just arrived to Pluma Hidalgo and wanted to explore a local coffee grower and do a tour. We explicitly informed Viator that we did NOT need pick up from Huatulco. My feedback is going to be TWO separate feedback about our experience: 1) Viator folks were pushy and uninformed. I chatted with three different “person”. The first one had no clue and fell off the connection. The second person advised me to book the tour and promised me that it would not be an issue for the tour operator to honor my request and meet in Pluma Hidalgo and offer a discount. I followed his advice and it was as a MAJOR MISTAKE! The tour operator did not agree to the terms and would not offer a discount. Overall, customer service with Viator is as super disappointing! 2) Feedback for the local your guide who showed us around Pluma Hidalgo was awesome. Saul was hired by the Tour Operator and was super knowledgeable of the mountain region and grew up there; thus, he knew the local coffee farmers and gave us an intimate exploratory experience. My advice: Try to go with a local tour operator. People from Oaxaca are honest business people and you will receive a fair deal. Cut out the bloated middle man that is Viator - they complicated the transaction and created unnecessary hassles. not in The tourist Vendor that Viator partnered with was great.

Would not recommend at all - We waited for our first guide, got in his marked tour car, and then a second guide came along and we went in his marked tour car. Then without explanation the guides were switched and another guide took over. So, right off the bat, two different tour cars and three different tour guides. (If the cars hadn’t been marked with the tour company’s name then we would not have gone along.) The third guide had to be reminded to wear his tour guide shirt by the second guide before he took over. No explanation as to why we had to wait for the second guide, transfer vehicles and then have to see our second guide leave the vehicle and have a third gentleman get in and tell us he was guide of the day. Tell me why our third guide takes us to only one of the plantations listed on the itinerary and we still have to pay that plantation for a tour (not a tip—an upfront, mandatory, per-person fee that we were only told about when we got there). On our way back to Huatulco our driver circles and stops to talk to some random people under a bridge for a few minutes, with little to no explanation. Our guide also tried to upsell us on multiple occasions on other excursions for that same day, even after we said we weren’t interested. We also had our pictures taken at the coffee plantation, with no offer to get the photos sent to us afterward. The whole thing was uncomfortable and weird. The highlight of the day was the breakfast spot, which by the way wasn’t on the itinerary. This and the general friendliness of our guide barely keeps this review from getting one star. Would not recommend.

Leave me stranded on the road and again on the tour - Amazing drive into the mountains, the driver was extremely competent and steered us through all the washouts on the road. Let's start at the beginning...... Mr Smarmy, my wife's description, met us at the desk that they operate from at SECRETS Huatulco. He sold us on the tour, Advertised price $127 person. Charged $340 CDN. Picked up on time by a wonderful driver, who I will not name as he should not be smeared by the companies poor performance. We experienced some difficulty on the trip up, the radiator overheated, we had to use the bottled water to refill the radiator, but ultimately ran out of drinking water and had to pull off the road. Our driver phoned in our dilemma and was told that the van that was ahead of us would unload and return to pick us up to continue the trip. No problem....sat on the edge of the road for 40 minutes. In the meantime our driver informed me that 1. the company was sending up a mechanic to repair the 10 passenger van, and that he requested that they send an additional van should the repair not work, Fell on deaf ears apparently. Were picked up by the 10 passenger van that had dropped off their clients and returned for us. GREAT! wait, hold on, our driver was told to wait for the broken down van so there were only 2 of the 3 guides available for us at the tour. SO, while we were on the tour, we were a party of 25 being led by 2 guides. GREAT! wait, hold on some of the members of the tour found the tour was beyond their abilities and one of the 2 guides had to go with them to offer assistance. (Could the tour operator have indicated that a portion of the tour was difficult for people with mobility issues? This will come up in a different Tour review {Waterfalls} arranged by the same tour company). So, 1 guide leading a tour for 20+ people on a narrow trail. Approximately half of the clients could not see/hear the information that was provided on the hike in the plantation. We get back for the tour of the production side of the operation. GREAT! wonderful information and a pleasant time accompanied by a nice lunch! One of the tour vehicles (1 of 3, a Chevy Suburban) returns to town, leaving 20 clients and 1 tour bus(10 passenger). We are given random information, if any at all, and both groups are waiting for resolution. At about 5 pm we are told that the van will be going back to town and that a van was about 20 minutes away from picking us up. They did not say that they meant 20 minutes after 6, almost an hour and a half away) COOL!. We get to drive down the mountain, in the dark, with road washouts, and at one point an impulsive on-coming driver that decided to try and beat us at one of the washouts. Many of our passengers were terrified at the near Head-On accident avoided only by our amazing drivers skills. Did I fail to mention how amazing the tour was, how wonderful our hosts were, how for 4 generations they have operated this coffee plantation? How our host took me on a tour of his barns were he has followed in his families 4 generation history of raising roosters for cock fighting? Not disclosed in the tour information. SO, we were left on highway, left at the plantation for about 3 hours, the other group delayed by about 1 hour until someone came up with a decision. Made contact with NexusTravel to enquire about some accommodation for our travails. (Had already booked and paid for a waterfall tour). Met with RENE, their representative, who was rude, inconsiderate and demeaning. Left with no satisfaction, with the promise of a free private transport to the airport, which we already had through WestJet Vacations. In conclusion, Shame on WestJet for using this tour company, arranging this tour of a coffee plantation/cock fighting breeder as one of their tour choices. Shame on me for not researching this tour operator, but based on the fact that Secrets had a desk for them just off their main entrance, I felt I was dealing with a credible organization.
