A Day of Thrills and Chills

As a professional surfer, I’ve spent countless days chasing waves and soaking up the sun in some of the most beautiful beach towns in Central America. But every now and then, I like to mix things up and dive into a different kind of adventure. That’s exactly what I did when I visited Xplor Park in the heart of the Riviera Maya. This underground world promised a day filled with jungle, adventure, and fun, and it certainly delivered.

The day started with a short taxi ride from Playa del Carmen, which was a breeze compared to the bus ride horror stories I’d heard. Arriving at the park, I was immediately struck by the convenience of its layout. The “heart” of the park housed the restaurant, lockers, and the starting points for all the excursions. It was a relief to know that I could stash my belongings in a locker and access them between activities. With my trusty waterproof lanyard for my phone and a secure velcro wristband for my locker key, I was ready to get wet and wild.

Ziplining Through the Jungle

The zipline course was the first adventure on my list, and it did not disappoint. With options for three or seven zips, I opted for the full experience. The lines were high and challenging, but the equipment and staff were top-notch, making me feel safe and secure. As I soared through the air, the views of the jungle below were breathtaking. The final line ended with a splash into a shallow pool, a refreshing end to an exhilarating ride.

For those of you who follow my surf adventures, you know I’m no stranger to heights and speed, but this was a different kind of thrill. The adrenaline rush was similar to catching a perfect wave, and I couldn’t help but smile as I zipped from one platform to the next. The park’s traffic light system helped me navigate the activities efficiently, ensuring I made the most of my day.

Exploring the Underground World

Next up was the underground excursion, a walk through a stunning world of stalactites and stalagmites. The water was higher than expected, reaching up to my collarbones at times, but the life jackets provided made it a safe and enjoyable experience. The highlight was a fantastic water slide in the middle of the excursion, where I joined a group of fellow adventurers for a hilarious train-style ride.

The underground world was a stark contrast to the sun-soaked beaches I’m used to, but it was a welcome change. The cool, clear waters and the natural beauty of the caves were mesmerizing. It was a reminder of the incredible diversity of nature and the endless opportunities for adventure beyond the surf.

A Day to Remember

After a day of thrills, I wrapped up my visit with a trip to the buffet. While the food was average, it was convenient and included in the admission, so I couldn’t complain. As I sat down to eat, I reflected on the day’s adventures and the unique experiences Xplor Park had to offer.

For someone like me, who lives for the ocean and the thrill of the ride, Xplor Park was a refreshing change of pace. It was a chance to explore a different side of nature and push my limits in new ways. Whether you’re a fellow surfer looking for a break from the waves or an adventurer seeking a new thrill, Xplor Park is a must-visit destination.

As I left the park, I couldn’t help but think about returning for the nighttime experience at “Fuego.” The idea of exploring the park under the stars, with everything lit up, sounded like an adventure I couldn’t pass up. Until then, I’ll be chasing waves and writing about the carefree life of surfers, but Xplor Park will always hold a special place in my heart.
