• Queen’s Head - The most renowned rock formation is the “Queen’s Head,” a mushroom rock resembling the profile of Queen Elizabeth of England. The annual “Yehliu Night Tour” features light shows and water projections, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to see the illuminated Queen’s Head at night.

In addition to the Queen’s Head, other notable formations such as the Sea Candles, Fairy Shoe, Ginger Rocks, Elephant Rock, Ice Cream Rock, Kissing Rock, and Princess’ Head are worth exploring.

• Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street) - Jiufen is a hillside village in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City. It thrived in the 1940s due to the gold mining industry but later fell into decline. Despite its past, this village has many stories to share.

The acclaimed film “A City of Sadness,” directed by renowned filmmaker Hou Hsiao-Hsien, was filmed here. Its unique history and emotional atmosphere have garnered global attention. The film’s success revitalized Jiufen’s tourism, making it a top destination in northeastern Taiwan.

While in Jiufen, it’s recommended to enjoy a cup of tea at a teahouse, where you can admire the scenic views and savor freshly brewed tea. Besides teahouses, visitors can sample local foods and purchase souvenirs. Those with a sweet tooth should try the traditional Jiufen dessert—Taro Ball!

• Shifen Waterfall - Located in the Pingxi District of New Taipei City, Shifen Waterfall is a popular attraction, often referred to as Taiwan’s “Little Niagara Falls,” resembling North America’s Niagara Falls.
• Shifen Waterfall Walk Area - Several viewing platforms near Shifen Waterfall offer different perspectives, including close-up views. On sunny days, visitors might catch a glimpse of a rainbow formed by the mist of this 20-meter tall waterfall as it cascades into the lake.
• Shifen Old Street - Shifen Station, originally built for coal transport during Japanese colonization, is located down the Keelung River from the waterfall area. Today, it serves as a historical reminder.

The street is lined with souvenir shops, sky lantern shops, and eateries. Many people set up sky lanterns on the railway track, preparing to release them into the sky. Visitors can partake in this tradition, sharing a lantern with 3 or 4 people, each writing wishes on one side. A tour guide will demonstrate how to release a sky lantern properly, allowing for a serene and peaceful experience.
