• Rundale Palace Museum (Rundales Pils) - Explore the Rundale Palace museum and its beautiful garden.

In 1735, Duke of Courland Ernst Johann von Biron acquired land in Rundāle, which included an old medieval castle, for a planned summer residence. The old castle was demolished, and construction began in 1736, following the design of Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Under Rastrelli’s supervision, the construction was completed in 1768. During this period, Johann Michael Graff created exquisite stucco decorations for the palace. Ernst Johann von Biron cherished the palace and moved there in 1768. He frequently visited and spent summers at the palace until his passing in 1772.

During World War I, under German occupation, the palace served as a hospital and commandant’s office. In the 1812 French invasion of Russia, it was used as a hospital for Napoleon’s army. By the late 19th century, the palace and park underwent restoration and reconstruction.
