Todd went above and beyond helping us with our gos snafu. Then he tought is so much about foraging for Mors, and we found a bunch! Ended it all with a delicious meal.
Very friendly and experienced teacher! Shared personal story and made the group feel capable with well paced instruction.
This was so educational. Todd was incredibly knowledgeable and also a wonderful chef. I learned so much and we found so many different types of mushrooms. He also pointed out some edible plants along the way as well. All around both fun and educational. Can't ask for more.
I was very satisfied with the class and how it was run. Todd "King of Mushrooms" was an incredibly knowledgeable and outstanding host. Tons of knowledge and a fun hike with cool people. My only disappointment was the lack of mushrooms we were able to forage, something I know is out of anyone's control. Regardless, I will be back.
Instructor Todd was great. Very professional and knowledgeable. He has the heart of a teacher. The cooking demo was worth the whole trip.
Amazing day, thank you!
This was a super informative tutorial on mushroom foraging, and also included a lot of information on medicinal and edible plants. The cooking demonstration at the end was top notch. All group leaders were very approachable, it was great to learn from them!
Amazing teacher, great class, and learned a lot!
Everyone involved was really friendly and knowledgeable. Great class great experience!
Todd and his crew did an amazing job teaching us about mushroom foraging. As a plant biologist, myself, I loved that he did not dumb down the vocabulary to describe the mushrooms and how respectful he was of the natural environment. He really know his mushrroms! He made the information very easy to understand and he emphasized important information. Added bonuses were identifying plants with poison oak cleaning properties, edible plants, and learning how to cook and clean mushrooms properly. I would definitely take more classes with Todd...he was so easy going and fun to spend the day with.
We had an amazing time! Todd and his team are fantastic. Thank you!!
This was a truly wonderful experience and should be highly recommended for anyone who has a budding interest in mushrooms and mycology in general. Todd Spanier who led our group is both warm and knowledgeable, and brought a genuine sense of enthusiasm to our experience. Although the "adventure and cooking demo" may seem a bit pricy, the lessons learned and easy-going nature of the expedition are more than worth the cost, in my opinion. If you're a mushroom lover and want to get some hands-on guidance with foraging, do yourself a favor and invest in a course like this at least once.
class was enjoyable and informative but little disorganized at times. would take another class with forage sf
Very informative and fun. Also learned how hard it is and how foolish it would be go foraging on my own for mushrooms until I learn more!
Todd was awesome, his crew was fantastic too. Had fun and would be happy to go again!
We went foraging in he Sierra Foothills with Todd in December and had a great day! Todd and the crew were very knowledgeable, and after a couple of hours of foraging, we enjoyed a delicious lunch of chanterelles with persimmon and a foraged white truffle shaved on top! Todd even brought some biodynamic wine for everyone. Highly recommend!
Highly recommend this forage through the Sierra foothills. Absolutely worth the drive and every penny.
It was a gorgeous fall day in the foothills and Maestro Todd is a legend with tremendous knowledge. As a group we managed to find several different species but its dry!! So it was a small haul. The cooking demo was disappointing, no pan to cook on. But delicious none the less. I would have potentially rescheduled the class 10days out after such a dry fall and no rain in the forecast. With about 15 people paying $90 each coming home empty handed, the price to value ratio was off. Its hunting, some time you come up empty handed, I get it. But it was too big of a group. I gifted one ticket to a friend for his birthday and brought my wife, so I was $270 into it. Any chance you can issue a credit for a future class?
It was unfortunate that the weather was a little dry - but it was fun walk in the woods - Todd was very knowledgeable and we did find some specimens and tasted some fungi delights!
Despite the lack of rain not resulting in a ton of mushrooms, Todd was incredible! We learned *SO MUCH!* I would have considered this great value even if we hadn't found a single mushroom. From learning what trees mycorrhizal mushrooms pair with, to learning how to ID a choice (and confusing) mushroom -- it was a great time. Todd is also incredibly nice, and very passionate.
It was a very enjoyable day. We didnt find mushrooms but Todd was very interesting and full of knowledge about all aspect of fungi. He made fabulous bruschetti with mushrooms and it was such a treat! Wonderful afternoon.
