- Royal Palace - Constructed in 1866 following King Norodom’s decision to move the royal capital from Oudong, this palace is situated on the western banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River. The complex showcases magnificent Khmer architecture and is divided into four main sections.
The Palace grounds also house the Silver Pagoda, named for its floor made of 5,329 silver tiles. Visitors can learn about the Khmer kings who resided here, except during the Khmer Rouge’s control in 1975. The Silver Pagoda features gold and jeweled Buddha statues, as well as the Angkor Wat style Bell Tower.
- Choeung Ek Genocidal Center - Choeung Ek, located about 17 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was once an orchard and is now a mass grave site for victims of the Khmer Rouge, who were killed between 1975 and 1979. It is the most renowned of the Killing Fields, where the regime executed over one million people during that period.
- Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - Situated in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum documents the Cambodian genocide. The museum is housed in a former secondary school that was repurposed as Security Prison 21 by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 until its fall in 1979.
