  The first stop is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school transformed into a detention center during the Khmer Rouge era. Although a challenging visit, it is crucial for understanding the country’s history.
• Russian Market - Experience a complete change of pace at the Russian Market, named for the many Russian expats who shopped here in the 1980s. It is Cambodia’s largest market, offering a wide range of items from carvings to jewelry, clothing, and souvenirs.
• Tonlé Bassac II Restaurant - Relish a buffet lunch at Tonlé Bassac II Restaurant or a similar venue. (Drinks are at your own expense.)
• Royal Palace - After lunch, proceed to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda (or the National Museum if the Royal Palace is closed). The Silver Pagoda is renowned for its 5,000 silver tiles and its collection of gold, silver, crystal, and bronze Buddha statues. Then, visit the hilltop Wat Phnom Temple, the city’s namesake. The final stop is the Independence Monument, modeled after the central tower of Angkor Wat. Built in 1958, it commemorates Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953 and serves as a memorial to the nation’s war dead. Wreaths are placed here on national holidays. At the end of the day, you will be transferred back to town with a drop-off at the Night Market.
