DAY 01: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa and Humantay Lagoon.
Salkantay Trail - Departing early in the morning from Cusco, the journey heads to Mollepata village, arriving around 9 am for breakfast. Facilities such as shops and restrooms are available. The trip continues with a 30-minute drive to Challacancha, where preparations for the hike begin….
DAY 01: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa and Humantay Lagoon.
Salkantay Trail - Departing early in the morning from Cusco, the journey heads to Mollepata village, arriving around 9 am for breakfast. Facilities such as shops and restrooms are available. The trip continues with a 30-minute drive to Challacancha, where preparations for the hike begin. Equipment is loaded onto horses for the trek to Soraypampa at 12,631 ft (3,850 m), where lunch is served and the campsite is set up. This location offers ample opportunity to capture stunning views of the canyon and valley. In the afternoon, after lunch, those interested can embark on a 1.20-hour hike to the picturesque Humantay Lagoon at 4,200 m, perfect for taking amazing photos. Dinner and overnight stay are at the lodge Cabañas in Sorayapampa.
DAY 02: Soraypampa – Salcantay Pass – Wayracpunku – Chaullay – Loreta La Playa.
Salkantay Trail - Following breakfast, the trek’s most challenging section begins, passing through Pampa Salcantay. The route takes the left side of the Humantay glacier, adjacent to the Salcantay glacier. By noon, the group reaches the highest point, Salcantay Humantay pass at 14,763 ft (4,600 m), offering views of the Salcantay glaciers. After a rest, lunch is enjoyed at Huayracmachay. The hike then descends for 4 hours to Selva Alta, also known as the Cloud Forest, reaching Chaullay at 9,514 ft (2,900 m) by 4 pm. Participants can choose to continue hiking or travel by car to the Ecolodge Majestic in Loreta La Plata, arriving around 5 pm. Dinner and overnight stay are in geodesic domes.
DAY 03: Loreta La Playa – Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric Central – Aguas Calientes.
Hot Springs (Aguas Calientes) - After breakfast, a visit to a nearby coffee plantation offers insights into coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing, concluding with a tasting session. The journey passes through various plantations, including coca, coffee, tea, and banana. After returning to the Ecolodge for lunch, the group departs by vehicle to the Hydroelectric Power Plant (1,900 masl) for a 90-minute drive. From there, a hike follows the train tracks and Urubamba River, visiting the Intihuatana archaeological site with its ancient Inca sundial. Views of Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu mountains are enjoyed, along with the diverse flora of the Cloud Forest. The day concludes with arrival in Aguas Calientes, where a comfortable hotel stay awaits. Dinner is served at a tourist restaurant, with an overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 04: MACHUPICCHU TOUR - CUSCO.
Machu Picchu - After breakfast at the hotel, the journey to Machu Picchu begins, with the option of a 1.5-hour walk or a 30-minute bus ride. A 3-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu explores its rich history and the Inca city, with ample opportunities for photography at the panoramic viewpoint. Before descending by bus, there is time for personal exploration of Machu Picchu. After regrouping with the guide, the return to Aguas Calientes includes lunch at a local restaurant before boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. There, private transportation awaits for the 2-hour drive back to the hotel in Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of 6:30 pm.
