Cusco - Cloud Forest - Pilcopata

Manu National Park - Departing from Cusco early in the morning in a comfortable minivan, the journey ascends to the upper region of Paucartambo. Along the way, there is a visit to the funerary towers or Chullpas of Ninamarca. The descent through the enchanting cloud forest reveals stunning orchids, heliconias, and ancient ferns. A stop is made to observe the cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruviana) during its mating ritual. There are also opportunities to see trogons (Trogon sp.) and more. With some luck, the elusive spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the only bear species in South America, might be spotted. In the afternoon, arrival at the town of Pilcopata is expected, where the first night will be spent in a hostel with private bathrooms and showers.

Chullpas de Ninamarca - A brief stop is made to visit the Ninamarca chullpas or pre-Inca tombs of the Lupaca Culture, followed by a continuation to Paucartambo to appreciate its plaza, market, and museum.

Wayqecha Cloud Forest Biological Station - Various species of orchids and vibrant birds such as tanagers, quetzals, trogons, and the National Bird of Peru, the Cock of the Rocks (Rupícola peruviana), can be admired.

Pilcopata - Atalaya - Paititi Hostel

Manu National Park - After breakfast, a walk through the jungle is planned, with visits to tropical products like coca plantations, fruits, and a variety of birds, plants, and monkeys, offering a chance to experience wildlife. Arrival at the port of Atalaya leads to a boat ride on the upper Madre de Dios River. A stop along the way allows for a trail walk and a bath in the area’s hot springs, before continuing to the lodge. Post-lunch, jungle exploration and rafting on Lake Machuhuasi are on the agenda. This vibrant area is home to species such as shanshos, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, capybaras, and tapirs, with the possibility of seeing many. An engaging night walk concludes the day, with an overnight stay at the Paititi Hostel, featuring private bathrooms and showers.

Atalaya - The journey includes appreciation of tropical jungle products, with coca and fruit tree plantations as the main activities of the residents, followed by a visit to the thermal baths.

Parrot Clay Lick

Manu National Park - Early in the morning, a 25-minute boat ride leads to the parrot clay lick (a mineral-rich clay wall), where various parrot species can be observed. Afterward, breakfast is served. The morning is spent walking in the forest, with opportunities to see a wide variety of birds, monkeys, or dwarf alligators. Returning to the lodge for lunch and rest, the afternoon and evening are dedicated to trail walks to spot wildlife, including insects, frogs, spiders, and more. Overnight at the Paititi Hostel.

Paititi Hostel - Atalaya - Cusco

Manu National Park - The return journey from the Paititi Hostel to Atalaya is by boat, where a minivan awaits to take travelers back to Cusco, passing through the cloud forest once more. Arrival in Cusco is expected at 6:00 PM, leaving behind the lush jungle and Andean landscapes.

Atalaya - The return to the starting point includes brief stops to once again appreciate the diversity of the cloud forest.
