Tough trekking in magnificent scenery - Great tour company. I feel we really packed in seeing and doing all the sites in a short time on a comfortable bus with informative guides. If you have the time, do the 3 day hike as the trekking is fewer km per day so you get to enjoy where you are - spectacular views- without pressure of getting to a lodge by 5pm. Giancarlo our guide was helpful especially as I was at the back needing to take it slower than the others. The lodge we stay at is very basic- don’t expect hot showers- but is good enough for the experience.

Condors, vicunas, llamas and alpacas a well organised trip. - Pre trip admin was good, the guide was well informed, there is allot of driving, we saw vicunas, alpacas, llamas and many condors which was amazing! It was windy on our trip so lots of layers needed. The hotel was really good, very clean, nice beds, unusual sheets, they catered very well for all the dietary requirements which was much appreciated. The bike ride was fun, the highlight was the condors!

Great experience - Serious challenge, but definitely worth it! Gian Carlos is a great guide, he has taught us a lot about the locals and takes everyone of the group into account.

2D 1N trek, treat experience - Hike is challenging but achievable for fit people who have some experience hiking - you need walking boots, a sun hat, rucksack ideally with hip straps, swim stuff and sandals. You arrive at the hostel around 5pm depending on group speed. Would definitely recommend hiring trekking poles in Arequipa (20 soles/ both for 2 days) - everyone in the group without them said if they could again they’d hire them. Paying the 20 soles extra per person for a private room is totally worth it - hot water, electricity, private bathroom, massive bed and large bedroom. We chose this company as it had the best reviews about the guides taking care of the group, which is true. Our guide Ghersy was lovely, motivating, and managed different group members’ speeds etc and checked in on all of us regularly, and advised us where to buy cheaper water etc. Had some little talks along the way about a few plants and the local area, not loads of information about the canyon itself. I’d advise taking a water bladder and bottle (for mealtimes), fruit and snacks, especially to have in the morning on the second day (as you hike around 3h to climb out of the canyon before breakfast). The food is basic as expected. Minibus on the way there was cramped (half of the seats had a raised platform underfoot which meant you spent 3 hours in a tucked position) and we joined people doing the 1 day tour on the way back which was fine, just meant more stop offs and less space. Note - no water provided, even at mealtimes. We were made aware of this before. All in all, our trek cost us 400 soles/ £90 (trip cost, poles, private room, tourist ticket for canyon, water, thermal spa, lunch you buy on the last day). Expensive, but worth it for a treat experience and happy to support local tour operators and guides - slightly frustrating re no water provided at mealtimes but admittedly difficult to see how they can easily correct this given how small the village is. Transport is okay. If you think you’ll be fine without suncream at the thermal spa - you won’t.

Beautiful Canyon, Terrible Guide - The trek is difficult but worth it! Couple of stars: Paola and Tracy were both very informative and punctual. However, our guide Marcos, ruined the experience. A group member was visibly unwell on the hike and he did not check in once, despite showing concern for a different hiker not in our group instead. He did not respond to questions, and did not ask the group about pacing, breaks, or how we were doing at all in the intense conditions. There were several instances of him being out of sight for 15 min at a time, including this morning when he did not lead us to the bus pickup, so we had to ask another guide. He also talked badly about colleagues who do other roles in the tour company. Overall we were unimpressed with him and his aloof negative presence took away from an otherwise smooth trip.
