brittanyrcampbell's Perfect Days

Parks, Markets And Poutine In Canada's Capital

    • Morning
      • Lieutenant's Pump

      • Low ceilings, stone walls, dark wood and red leather booths add to the charm of this re-purposed, early 1900's apartment building, retro-fitted. While this place is a great pub at night, it's the weekend breakfast/brinch that sets it apart. Fresh fruit on every plate and a great variety of eggs Benedict. Try the Eggs Portuguese, on a potato pancake. Mmmm.
      • Confederation park

      • Take a stroll down Elgin to Confederation Park. Bordered by numerous landmarks, including the Rideau Canal, the National Arts Centre and the Lord Elgin Hotel, this is a great spot to take in an open-air concert at one of Ottawa's many festivals.
    • Afternoon
      • Byward Market

      • Head over to the Byward Market, where local farmers sell everything from real maple syrup to fresh flowers. It's also the heaviest concentration of restaurants in the city, so choices for lunch are endless. Try the Moulin de Provence for an afternoon snack. Even US President, Barack Obama couldn't resist their cookies.
    • Evening
      • Parliament Hill Sound and Light Show

      • Bring a lawn chair or a picnic blanket and cozy up for the free, nightly show that explores Canada’s physical, historical and cultural landscapes.
    • Night
      • Fat Tuesday's

      • Get on your dancing shows and head over to Fat Tuesdays for a great cajun dinner and live entertainment, courtesy of their world famous dueling pianos, every Thursday and Saturday night.
      • Smoke`s Poutinerie Ottawa

      • No night on the town is complete without the french-Quebec favourite, Poutine! Don't let the ingredients scare you away. Crispy fries, topped with fresh St. Albert cheese curds, smothered in sumptuous gravy combine to create the best late-night snack around.
