Adventurer and Foodie

My earliest travel memory is walking out to the reef in Watamu Bay, Mombasa when the tide had gone out, holding my dad's hand and peering into all the rock pools. I must have been about 3 or 4 years old. Being just too little to really snorkel, this was the first time I had ever been able to see all the amazing anemones, eels, and fish, and I would stick my head right into the pool with my little goggles on. I remember it just blowing my mind!

I would spend my perfect day in Los Angeles because it's a city where anything can happen! The relaxed vibe and gorgeous weather make adventuring easy. To get a little rugged and dusty, I head north to Sunset Ranch for a hike or a horse ride. I head west to Rodeo Drive for some glam retail therapy followed by high tea at the Peninsula. To chill out and take a breather, I just head to the beach in Malibu and take a long walk, followed by a cocktail at Nobu Malibu.

The activities that can't be missed

  1. Renting bikes and cycling along the boardwalk in Venice.
  2. A day at Universal Studios for a slightly less "theme park" experience.
  3. Stop in at the Getty Villa on your way to Malibu; go for the views more than the art.
Hide Away at the Chateau Marmont

My favorite places to eat

  1. La Scala for the Turkey Chopped Salad (add tomatoes): You will see power-lunching executives wheeling and dealing.
  2. Chateua Marmont for the Spaghetti Bolognese and a pretty solid shot of seeing a celebrity (or five!).
  3. Nobu Matsuhisa for the yellowtail and jalapeño sashimi. It's just so good!

The places you should definitely see

  1. The Griffith Observatory: For beautiful architecture and spectacular photo opportunities of the city.
  2. Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA): For its vast collections of art from all over the globe.
  3. The Hollywood Sign: Just has to be done. A fun way to do it is on horseback!
Farmers Market

My hidden gems

  1. Roseark: For amazing jewelry! It's full of unique, one-off pieces. Very chic!
  2. Lamai Thai: An amazing massage spot on Abbot Kinney. I wouldn't describe it as a particularly relaxing 'spa' experience, but if you want an affordable, authentic Thai massage, then this is your spot!
  3. Yamishiro Farmers Market: This is so much fun! Located up in the Hollywood Hills with views over LA, this is a really fun excursion with live jazz and delicious food ranging from sushi to Southern dishes. On Thursday nights between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. from April through September.

The most romantic thing you can do here is go for a hike up Point Dume in Malibu and watch the sun set from the cliffs. You might even get lucky and see some dolphins or even a whale depending on the time of year. Don't forget a great bottle of Californian white and a couple of sandwiches from Malibu Kitchen that you picked up en route. The Turkey and Brie and the Caprese sandwiches are pretty major!
