Alaskan Adventure

Two Sisters Bakery and Bed and Breakfast

Start the day with delicious pastries featuring local berries.

Alaska Kayak School

Kayaking Kachemak Bay will be the highlight of your Alaska trip. Sign up for a trip with any one of the local outfitters to see seals, otters, and maybe even whales. Hop out of your kayak to go tide-pooling at the base of glaciers and northern rain forests.

While you're in Kachemak Bay, stop by The Saltry in the tiny town of Halibut Cove for a late lunch. Halibut Cove is home to some of the state's finest art galleries, so after you've had enough halibut ceviche or fresh salmon, walk across the boardwalk to check out some octopus ink paintings. Return to Homer on the Danny J, an old fishing boat repurposed into the community's ferry.

Pier One Theatre

A vibrant art community can be found on both sides of the bay. Back in Homer, jump in line early at Pier One Theatre's outdoor ticket booth to get tickets for one of the community theatre's productions.

Fat Olive's Restaurant

It's late, but there's still light in the sky (this is Alaska in the summer after all) and you're still hungry. Head to Fat Olive's, where the pizza slices will both satisfy your taste buds and fix the calorie deficit you worked up kayaking.

I would stay at: Land's End Resort

Soak in the hot tub as eagles fly overhead and the light finally leaves the sky. Wake up the next morning to glaciers and whales right outside your window.
