It was created by the sinking of old ships loaded with stones. As the legend says, it was created by local sailors who discovered an icon of the Virgin and Child on a rock in the sea. After that, they placed the stone in the same place every time they returned from a successful trip, causing the island to gradually emerge. The story continues, as every year on July 22 at sunset, local residents take out their boats and throw stones into the sea around the island.
  Inside the church, you can visit the large marble altar, which is the work of Antonio Capellano, a sculptor from Genoa. On it you can see the icon of Our Lady of Škrpjela, which is the work of the painter Lovra Dobričević, one of the greatest masters of that era in the Balkans.
