- Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Known as Sri Dalada Maligawa, this Buddhist temple is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka, within the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy. It houses the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, which has historically been significant in local politics, as possession of the relic is believed to confer governance of the country. Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, is a World Heritage Site largely due to this temple. The Royal Palace of Kandy, or Mahawàsala, situated north of the Temple of the Tooth, was the residence of the Sri Lankan monarchy in the Kingdom of Kandy. King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha (1798-1815) was the last monarch to reside there. The palace complex included the King’s Palace (Raja Wasala), Royal Audience Hall (Magul Maduwa), Queen’s Palace (Meda Wasala), King’s Harem Quarters (Palle Vahale), and Queen’s Bathing Pavilion (Ulpange), along with the Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa). Nearby is a Victorian-era building that formerly housed the Kandy High Court.
- Kandy View Point - Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake located in the center of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, it is adjacent to the Temple of the Tooth. Over time, the lake’s size has been reduced. It is a protected body of water, with fishing prohibited.
