Ask for Dave - You will actually be traversing the falls and river. Our guide Dave was very knowledgeable on the trip up the river and you could tell. He knew exactly where to place your feet despite the rushing water. He was incredibly helpful and made sure we were comfortable and safe the entire excursion. The trip itself took about and hour through the river and then an extra 10-15 minutes to and from their office. Dave was also very informative, telling us the local uses for plenty of different things. Limestone wash, wicker vines, cashews; very cool stuff. The food was incredible, definitely the best we’ve had since we’ve been in Jamaica. Overall an amazing experience that I would 100% do again, with some different shoes though.

This experience is a MUST - We asked our hotel receptionist which falls were the closest and it was highly recommended that we try Mayfield Falls for it's beauty and less touristy nature compared to Dunn's River Falls. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was probably my favourite day of our vacation. We arrived to find we were the only tour at the site. The entry fee ($25 USD) is really fair and included a personal guide. Note that tipping your guide is critical so ensure you bring extra cash for that (I recommend at least an extra $20 USD per person in your group). We decided to order lunch and they told us it would be ready upon our return back to the start. Jerome, our guide, was INCREDIBLE. He was so caring, considerate and supportive, helping each of us every step of the way. Some of us weren't swimmers and had other physical needs requiring support and he lovingly held our hands and told us where best to step for our safety. He also happily acted as our personal photographer, suggesting different types of shots and posing us. We literally have hundreds of pics from just that afternoon. You spend the entire time walking through water, and the mosquitos are hungry, so I recommend wearing a rash guard to prevent bites and renting the water shoes if you don't have a pair. They ask you to not wear sunscreen to not introduce chemicals into the water, but the trees provide enough shade. At the end, Jerome applied crushed limestone mixed with water to our skin which exfoliated and helped ease the itch of mosquito bites and sting of sunburn. The chef accommodated our request for vegan food and prepared a really delicious meal of rice and peas, sauteed mix veg with tomatoes, and fried plantain. It was actually one of the best meals I had during the trip. Another guy offered us fresh coconut ($5 USD) which was perfect to replenish electrolytes after all the physical activity. I feel happy just remembering the day by writing this review and highly recommend you visit Mayfield Falls if you can!!!

Best Interactive Natural falls - This was the most interactive waterfall I’ve experienced. Mayfield falls reminded us of Costa Rica (not size but beauty and healing properties). The water was beyond clean, clear, pure and fresh. Pictures do not do it justice. Dwight, our guide, was patient as our party was a non-swimmer and a strong swimmer and positioned us for exquisite photos/videos.
We climbed up the waterfalls (~3/4 mile) and walked down through nature (to see vegetation and plants). Dwight took some amazing Instagram worthy videos and photos. He captured my favorite pic of a 2 week vacation. There are places to swim or walk around. ~ 8 waterfalls or spots to leverage ourselves against rocks and allow the waves to rush across our bodies. The last fall was the ultimate massage. Felt like we had the entire place to ourselves and absolutely no rush through the falls.
Ate lunch on site, meals ranged from $14-$26 pp depending on what you ordered. We ordered shrimp and escovitch fish. Next time I’d order the chicken dishes (due to taste and value).
I would have bought wood cravings (the hearts with our names engraved or a gift for a friend) but we didn’t bring enough cash. Excellent craftsmanship and energy. There was no pressure to buy anything.
We paid $25 pp, $150 for a taxi from Negril, bring a towels and sturdy water shoes, we kept our stuff in the taxis.
Support the island and get a memorable experience as well. This is non commercialized falls that connects to the creator.
Our ranking, #1 - Mayfield falls, #2 - YS falls, and #3 Dunns river falls. We’ve loved Mayfield and YS falls, I’d say do both, it’s a different experience. Mayfield is more natural, interactive and smaller, on bumpy roads up to the historic mountains. YS falls absolutely gorgeous easier paths, larger falls and meals were delicious. Dunn’s experience might be tainted as it was a cruise excursion two decades ago. I’m sure going on a non cruise day is better.

Once in a lifetime experience! - We did not realize that the hole would be through the falls up and down, and what a pleasant surprise! Our tour guide Lester was so personable, friendly, and funny not to mention helpful, cautious, and knowledgeable! Would recommend this adventure to anyone.

Wonderful experience - The Mayfield Falls tour was absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend it especially if you love being one with nature. The driver Damion was very professional and navigated the roads safely. Cordell, the guide was excellent as well. He helped me “a non swimmer” safely navigate the falls. The provided meal was delicious as well! Everyone was very welcoming and kind. The views are stunning and I learned about different plants in the area. 10/10 experience!

A scenic and remote tour of waterfalls and wading pools - We had a great time at Mayfield Falls. Jerome was an excellent guide. My wife and I are both in our 50s and had no issues making it through the river with Jerome’s assistance. There were numerous wading pools to swim in, rapids to dunk our heads in, and Jerome acted as paparazzi for us (his words). Make sure to bring water shoes (ours were old and fell apart, and Jerome was nice enough to go back and get us some while we relaxed in the river). The scenery is beautiful and remote. It was a very private tour. At the end, we had an excellent lunch of chicken (several options), rice and beans, and a small salad.
Beware that the ride up to Mayfield Falls is not easy. It is a bumpy road with lots of twists and turns (which our driver navigated professionally) but might make some people nauseous if you are prone to carsickness.

Exceptional excursion! - Our family (group of eight from 9 years to teenagers to mid 50s) took a van up to Mayfields from Negril. Just the drive alone was a wonderful tour up into the mountains.
Mayfields was a fantastic experience for our group. Jerome and Andray were so knowledgeable, helpful, funny, and made everyone feel engaged, encouraged, and safe.
Upon arriving to Mayfields, we rented water shoes and ordered lunch. We hiked only for a few minutes before we were in the springs and having a blast.
We all had such a laugh and learned so much too. The walk back to the start was also really interesting and beautiful.
After a satisfying, gorgeous experience- we sat down to a terrific meal and a few beers happily served by a lovely group of folks.
Can’t recommend the experience more!

Relaxing day at Mayfield Falls - We had a great time and highly recommend a tour at Mayfield Falls. We really enjoyed our time with Dwight who made sure we had a great time as well as stayed safe, knowing where every rock and step was. The falls and river were beautiful and peaceful and we enjoyed learning the history. He was great at taking pictures for us as well. The lunch at the end of the tour was delicious and everyone was super nice. What a great way to explore the culture of Jamaica.

Mayfield is paradise! - I’ve been to several falls in jamaica over the years and Mayfield is the absolute best. Crystal clear mineral spring water, completely natural setting - no ziplines or tour buses. It’s paradise. Jerome and Andray are fantastic, deeply knowledgeable and kind tour guides, keeping our big group -which included a wide range of ages and abilities- safe and having a blast.
A bonus forest walk and native flora tour including cacao, mango, breadfruit, fresh dug tumeric root and many more with stories, etymology, history.
Definitely order lunch before you set out and the crew will have it ready when you are done with the falls. Delicious fresh home cooked lunch with a sweet little bar.
Best day ever!
