Fly into Paro - Paro Sightseeing
Paro - Welcome to Paro, Bhutan, where misty mountains blend with rich cultural heritage, offering a journey that connects you with nature and your inner self. Your guide and driver will greet you at the airport with a white scarf symbolizing good fortune and accompany you to your hotel.
Rinpung Dzong - Cross the traditional wooden cantilever bridge to reach Paro Rinpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress on a Heap of Jewels, and admire its remarkable architecture and paintings.
Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang - Located just outside Paro town, Dumtseg Lhakhang is set against a stunning hill backdrop. It is possibly the only ancient temple shaped like a chorten and is literally chained down due to local beliefs that it might otherwise ascend to heaven! Built in 1412 by Thangtong Gyelpo, who came to Bhutan seeking iron ore for bridge construction in Tibet, the temple houses what may be the most extraordinary collection of paintings in Bhutan. Dumtseg Lhakhang is designed as a mandala with three levels of initiation.
Dzongdrakha Temple - Enjoy a 15-minute walk to Dzongdrakha, a visually stunning yet less frequented cliffside retreat. While there, visit the cave where Drubthog Gyonpo Dorji, the founder of the Lhakhang, meditated. The site offers a spiritually healing atmosphere and is less touristy, allowing you to fully appreciate its serenity and tranquility.
Day Excursion to Thimphu (One-hour drive)
Buddha Dordenma - Capture the magnificent Buddha Dordenma statue and enjoy the view of the Thimphu valley.
Bhutan Postal Museum - Visit the General Post Office, where you can create a postage stamp featuring your own picture, which can be mailed within Bhutan.
Tashichho Dzong (Thimphu Dzong) - From Dechenphodrang Monastery, capture the view of Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress that serves as the seat of the National Government and the Central Monastic Body.
Wangdi-tse Monastery - Explore the scents and sights of the dense pine forest along the Thimphu valley, leading to the magnificent Wangditse Monastery. This easy one-and-a-half-hour hike crosses local apple farms and houses, with trails through oak, pine, and rhododendron trees, occasionally revealing views of the Buddha Dordenma statue, Tashichho Dzong, and Thimphu valley.
- Optional
Drive to Paro & Tiger Nest Hike
Paro Taktsang - Today’s hiking highlight is the trail to the Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery). After a brief 40-minute drive, arrive at the hike’s starting point. Depending on your fitness level, it will take approximately 2-4 hours to ascend and 1-2 hours to descend. It’s encouraged to maintain your own pace while being mindful of each step and your connection with nature. Enjoy lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria.
Paro - In the evening, experience a traditional hot stone bath, participate in a local archery game at a farmhouse, and savor a farmhouse dinner with local cuisine.
