Very moving experience - It was a very early cold wet Paris morning start at a quaint Parisienne cafe meeting point. We were met by Will who was our driver and guide for the day. We commend Blue Fox Tours for proceeding with this tour despite low numbers, effectively providing us with a private and personalised experience. Will was highly knowledgeable with the townships and sites, friendly, and engaging. He had clearly mapped the route to ensure we maximise all the listed locations and more while allowing ample time to explore each site, including additional visits to various sites along the way. Highlights included town of Amiens the birth place of French President Macron, Amiens Cathedral, Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel, the Ulster Memorial to the 36th Ulster Division, Mouquet Farm at Pozières, the Australian 1st Division Memorial, the Windmill Armoured Corps site, the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, and the Sir John Monash Centre inclusive of admission and audio fees. Lunch at Hygge Café in Albert was delightful, and across from it stood the magnificent Basilique Notre-Dame de Brebières, with various bronze Australian soldier memorials in front. Despite the cold, windy and limited sunshine conditions, the full-day tour was packed with sombre, moving, and enlightening history. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Blue Fox Tours.

Worth every euro - This is a once in a lifetime, must see, never to be forgotten experience. You can’t get to these locations on your own unless you’re willing to drive on the opposite side of the road, and even then you won’t get the same local, guided knowledge. We were a group of 7, all Australian and had our own connections to war, military and veterans which made it more poignant. Read the Ode and play the Last Post at one of the Australian memorials if you want to make the experience that little deeper. Highly recommend this tour. Thank you Philippe for your fabulous hospitality and knowledge.

Brilliant - How often do you get to do a tour of the Somme with someone with a Doctorate in History! Oliver was a kind, knowledgeable and interesting guide and made the experience one to remember. Visiting places which I have read about or seen in documentaries was exceptional. Just remember to pack warm clothes if coming in winter.

Amazing - What a day. So much more about the Australian involvement in WWI I didn’t know. There was an inkling. At school, we’re taught about Gallipoli. I didn’t fully understand the significance of Villers-Bretonneux. We started out at the cathedral in Amiens. It was damaged by the German bombings in 1918. The Australian defence of Villers-Bretonneux prevented the Germans from advancing on Amiens, and the town became a safe zone for allied forces. We stopped the Thipeval Memorial of the Missing and then at the Pozieres Memorial and at the Australian Corps Memorial Park in Le Hamel. Our last stop was the John Monash Centre near Villers-Bretonneux (Somme) in northern France. So much more information and the memorial is beautiful. I also feel this day was possibly the coldest I have ever felt. Imagine fighting a war in those conditions - cold, rain, snow. I can’t.

Good organisation of the tour, but guide knowledge could improve. - We enjoyed this tour. It would be very difficult to get to all the battlefields and memorials without an organised tour. We found the tour guide’s knowledge was less than we expected, not really knowing a lot about Australians in WW1, despite that being one of the main parts of the tour. We were also told when booking and via email that we have to bring cash for lunch, but card was accepted. Lunch was also a bit long and I would have preferred to pick up something at a boulangerie for lunch. 4 stars for the tour (being driven around to the locations), 3 stars for the guide. Wear warmer clothes and appropriate footwear, a lot of the sites are muddy and colder than expected.
