In 1916, just a year before his passing, Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) donated all his artworks and belongings to the French state. In return, the state acquired the Hôtel Biron and pledged to transform it into a museum honoring the artist. The Paris location opened its doors to the public in 1919, followed by the Meudon site in 1948. Rodin’s generous donation was the cornerstone of the Musée Rodin, maintaining the unique connection between a prime location in one of Paris’s most beautiful gardens and the creations of the era’s most celebrated sculptor.

The molds and models he donated are utilized to create original bronze casts, enabling his art to be shared globally.
