It was at the heart of the French monarchy until 1682, when Louis XIV chose to settle in Versailles. The keep was used as a prison from the 16th up to the 19th century: Fouquet, the Marquis de Sade, and Mirabeau were held here. Under Napoleon I it was transformed into a barracks and arsenal, and the fortress protected Paris during invasions in the 19th century.

The Château de Vincennes is an essential destination in the Paris area.
Its origins trace back to the 12th century when Louis VII decided to construct a hunting lodge in the Vincennes forest. It was during the reign of Louis IX that the Château was officially transformed into a royal residence.
In the 14th century, the Château took on the form we recognize today: King Charles V commissioned the construction of an extensive wall, towers, and a keep over 50 meters tall, now regarded as the tallest medieval fortified structure in Europe. He also initiated the building of the Sainte-Chapelle in 1379, which was completed in 1552 during Henri II’s reign.
The Blandy Les Tours castle is a unique example of medieval military architecture in the Paris region. Evolving from a simple fortified manor to a fortified castle during the Hundred Years’ War, and later to a Renaissance residential castle and the Ferme des tours (Farm of the towers), the castle of Blandy-les-Tours has endured through the centuries and has been owned by many distinguished families.
