• Shakespeare and Company Bookstore - Explore the renowned Shakespeare & Company bookstore, where Ginsberg & Corso held a Beat poetry reading in 1957. It has since become a beloved Paris landmark for book enthusiasts. Additional local spots will also be visited.
• Le Caveau de la Huchette - Jazz played a crucial role in the development of Beat poetry, and we will visit two jazz clubs frequented by the Beats during their time in Paris.
• Place De L’Odeon - Visit one of William Burroughs’ favorite cafés.
• Rue de Seine - Discover the English language bookstore known for featuring William Burroughs’ more controversial works, and a budget hotel where Gregory Corso stayed when he couldn’t afford the Beat Hotel.
• Le Bonaparte - Conclude the tour at Café Bonaparte, a favored spot of Gregory Corso. The Beats appreciated the relaxed vibe of this café compared to the more famous ones on Boulevard St Germain.
• Le Select - Alternatively, take the metro to Montparnasse and finish the tour at Le Select, the café where Ginsberg penned the initial verses of his poem Kaddish.
