Pre Rup - Start your journey at the Pre Rup Hindu temple, constructed as the state temple of Khmer King Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961 or early 962. This temple mountain features a combination of brick, laterite, and sandstone.
Banteay Srei - Continue your drive to the intricately carved and well-preserved Banteay Srei. The detailed reliefs on this smaller sandstone structure are considered the finest and most skillfully crafted in Cambodia. Banteay Srei has been accessible since the late 1990s, following the departure of the Khmer Rouge.
Neak Pean - Head back to visit the Neak Pean temples, an artificial island with a Buddhist temple on a circular island in Jayatataka Baray. Continue your afternoon at Preah Khan temple, a captivating blend of tree roots and crumbling stone structures. This site was commissioned by the renowned ‘temple builder’ Jayavarman VII in honor of his father, offering an interesting contrast to the grand Angkor Wat.
Preah Khan - Currently under restoration by the World Monument Fund, Preah Khan is in remarkably good condition in some areas. Return in the late afternoon to relax in the serene setting of Siem Reap’s rice fields as the sun sets over the horizon.
Eastern Mebon - Visit this site to conclude your trip, then return to the hotel.
Angkor Wat at Sunrise, Ta Prohm, Ta Nei, and Bayon Temple
Angkor Wat - Begin with a pre-dawn departure to witness the sunrise outside Angkor Wat. Enter the magnificent temple in darkness (please bring a torch) from the less-visited eastern side, and explore the ancient cloistered corridors past the world’s longest stretch of bas-relief carvings.
Srah Srang - Conclude your Angkor tour with breakfast outside the temple.
Ta Prohm - Proceed to the jungle-covered Ta Prohm, one of the most atmospheric temples in Angkor. Once home to 2,740 monks, Ta Prohm remains much as it was in the early 1850s when French explorer Henri Mouhot ‘rediscovered’ this decaying site.
Ta Nei Temple - Drive to Ta Nei, a late 12th-century stone temple located in Angkor.
Bayon Temple - Visit the southern Gate of Angkor Thom, lined with 54 stone figures on each side – gods on the left and demons on the right – and explore the fortified city of Angkor Thom. At ‘The Bayon,’ admire its beautifully crafted central towers adorned with over 200 enormous faces, and pass by the famous Terrace of the Leper King and the Terrace of Elephants.
Siem Reap - Return to the hotel around 1:00 pm.
