Exploring Panama City: A Surfer’s Urban Adventure
Trading my surfboard for walking shoes, I embarked on a personalized tour of Panama City. With Camilo as our guide, we explored the city’s rich history and modern marvels, leaving with memories as vivid as the sunsets over the Pacific.
A Warm Welcome to Panama City
As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the vibrant cultures and stunning coastlines of Central America. So when I heard about the Panama City Private Tour experience, I knew it was time to trade my surfboard for a pair of walking shoes and explore the urban side of Panama. My wife and I landed in Panama City, eager to dive into its rich history and modern marvels.
Our adventure began at the Hyatt LaCompania in Casco Viejo, a beautifully restored monastery that now serves as a charming hotel. The neighborhood, with its colonial architecture and lively atmosphere, was the perfect base for our exploration. After a quick freshen-up, we met our guide, Camilo Bermudez, who would be our local friend and historian for the next few days.
Discovering the Heart of Panama
Camilo’s passion for Panama was infectious. He led us on a walking tour through the cobblestone streets of Casco Viejo, sharing stories of its past and present. We paused for a much-needed coffee break, savoring the renowned Geisha coffee, a treat for any coffee aficionado. The aroma and flavor were as rich as the history surrounding us.
The next day, Camilo and his driver Manuel whisked us away for a full-day tour that promised to reveal the city’s most iconic sites. Our first stop was the Miraflores Visitor Center at the Panama Canal. Watching the colossal ships navigate the locks was a sight to behold, a testament to human ingenuity and determination. Camilo’s insights into the canal’s history and its impact on global trade added depth to the experience.
A Farewell to Remember
Our journey continued with a drive along the Amador Causeway, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline and the Pacific entrance to the canal. We explored the shops and enjoyed a leisurely lunch, soaking in the vibrant energy of Panama City. The day concluded with a visit to the Panama Canal Museum, where we delved deeper into the canal’s fascinating story.
As our time in Panama City came to an end, Camilo and Manuel ensured our departure was as smooth as our arrival. They helped us load our bags and wished us well on our continued journey. Reflecting on our experience, I realized that while the waves of Panama’s beaches were calling, the city’s cultural waves had left an equally lasting impression.
Panama City, with its blend of history, modernity, and warm hospitality, had captured our hearts. Thanks to Camilo and the Panama City Private Tour, we left with memories as vivid as the sunsets over the Pacific. Until next time, Panama!
