What a day! - We can' t say enough good things about our birding trip with Mario. He is knowledgeable, entertaining, and enthusiastic, not only about birds, but about life in Panama in general. We saw many species of birds that we would never have seen had it not been for Mario's keen eye. There are a lot of birding guides and businesses in Panama, but I'm sure there is not a better value than an excursion with Mario.

Best rainforest bird spotting tour ever - This was a truly amazing experience. Mario has a keen eye for birds and animals. My wife and I saw 50+ species of birds in about 3 hours, along with sloths and even a group of coatimundi. He is deeply knowledgeable about all the wildlife in the area and its history. I think we might only have seen maybe 10% of the species on our own. His knowledge of the area and the individual bird calls is a sight to behold. His spotting scope brings the birds up close and personal. He is kind and generous with his time. The tour included a stop for coffee and empanadas, which was so welcome given our 6 am start.

A+ birding and photography experience - "Panama with Mario" at the Pipe Line (along the canal ecosystem) was a very satisfying birding and photography experience. Mario is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and sensitive. I will recommend him in a heartbeat. Toucans, antbirds, motmot, chachalaca, a ringed kingfisher with a catch, tiger heron, slaty-tailed trogon, cacique, manekin, hummers, ...and more.

Super day with Mario - Had a great day with Mario. We really enjoyed and saw a lot. Mario is friendly, knows how to find the birds well and his enthusiasm for birding is palpable and infectious. At 6 o'clock sharp he was on the sidewalk and we drove to Gamboa for the first birds. Beautiful toucans, tanagers and more. Then to several places including the pipeline road. In the end we saw 72 species of birds. We can't recommend anything but Mario wholeheartedly.

Every bit as good as prior reviews suggested! - What an awesome outing! Mario is charming, and knowledgeable about the birds, the animals, where they hang out, and the history of Panama. We were lucky to be among the first to try out a new garden spot he has developed with a friend to bring the birds (and agoutis and coatamundis) within feet of us, all feeding on papaya and banana, while we sat in comfortable chairs with coffee. And when we were out and about, he was amazing at locating birds in the wild and focusing his spotter on them so we got really clear views. And found an ant swarm in the rainforest that had lured in a whole lot of birds who got within feet of us, they were so focussed on the insects preying on the ants. A delightful experience! Highly recommend!

Great! Be sure to book the tour with Mario! - Mario is a very experienced guide with immense knowledge of the plants and wildlife in the national park. He was very attuned to our wishes, so in addition to wonderful bird watching we could also see monkeys and especially sloths. A spectacular day that we will surely remember for a long time to come. Thank you very much, Mario!

Great experience - This was an exciting bird watching tour, but the highlight wasn't a bird , but an anteater. Mario was a wonderful. He brought a spotter scope and was expert at getting the perfect shot onto the cell phone. We saw lots birds and animals. I'm sorry if readers are disappointed but I didn't keep a list of what we saw. We were picked up at our hotel and dropped back there. Mario brought water and delicious pineapple. On the way back to the city he turned the car around because he spotted a 3 toed sloth at the roadside. We travel a lot and enjoy bird and nature watching in each new place. This tour was special.

Birding was Fantastic - Mario was a superb guide who helped us spot and photograph an amazing diversity of birds (as well as some monkeys). He was prompt, knowledgeable, and accommodating to our preferences of photography subject matter. We are experienced birders and particular regarding our tours, and he exceeded expectations. We definitely would use him again for another private tour.
