Bodenburg Butte - Next, the group will proceed to Bodenburg Butte, a notable local landmark, and ascend approximately 800 feet to the top. Along the way, there will be stops to explore the local flora, fauna, and the boreal forest.
At the summit, there will be an extended break to enjoy the views of the Knik Glacier and the surrounding mountain ranges, weather permitting.
The Butte is a beloved local spot, offering a moderate hike with stunning views. While visitors can choose to hike this landmark on their own, the local guides provide valuable insights into the area’s history. From geological changes to the diverse trees and flowers of the boreal forest, guests will be fully immersed in Palmer’s story.
At the summit, participants will discover evidence of past glacial activity and learn about the Butte’s unique presence in an otherwise flat valley. On clear days, the views include the Knik Glacier, the Knik and Matanuska rivers, as well as the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains.

The group will return to the Palmer Visitor Center, where recommendations for additional activities in the Palmer area will be provided.

After an introduction to glaciers, the group will hike 1.5 miles up Bodenburg Butte, a local landmark with an 800-foot peak. Enjoy stunning views of the Knik Glacier (weather permitting) and learn about the region’s geological evolution on this educational excursion.
