Setting Sail from Palmeira

The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over the vibrant fishing village of Palmeira as I arrived at the port. Known for its colorful Cape Verdean houses and bustling atmosphere, Palmeira was the perfect starting point for my adventure on the Lounge Catamaran SODADE. As a marine biologist, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean, and the promise of a half-day adults-only tour was too enticing to resist. The anticipation of exploring the waters around Sal Island, with its rich marine life and stunning landscapes, had me eager to set sail.

Boarding the catamaran was an experience in itself. The crew greeted us with warm smiles and a glass of Prosecco, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable journey. The catamaran, spacious and comfortable, was equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing day at sea. From comfy seating areas to deck lounge beds and bean bag nets, there was plenty of room to unwind and soak in the sun. As we set off, the gentle sway of the boat and the sound of the waves created a calming rhythm that instantly put me at ease.

Anchoring at Monte Leão

As we sailed towards Murdeira Bay, the waters became a bit wavy, but the crew’s professionalism and attention to safety were reassuring. They provided life jackets for the dinghy ride to the catamaran and offered light life vests for those who wanted to swim when we anchored. Their commitment to safety and cleanliness was evident throughout the trip, with the crew constantly ensuring that everything was in order.

Anchoring at the base of Monte Leão, a mountain resembling a sleeping lion, was a highlight of the tour. The calm waters of Murdeira Bay, protected by the coast and the mountain, provided the perfect setting for a swim. The crew set up a private inflatable pool at the back of the catamaran, allowing even the less confident swimmers to enjoy the sea safely. With a crew member on each side, I felt completely at ease as I floated in the pool, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the bay.

Dancing Back to Shore

After a refreshing swim and some time lounging on the deck, it was time for snacks. The selection was impressive, with freshly made pizza, sandwiches, fruit, and crisps to satisfy every craving. Drinks flowed freely throughout the trip, with the crew ensuring that everyone had a glass in hand, whether it was a cocktail or sparkling wine.

As we began our journey back to Palmeira, the atmosphere on board shifted from serene relaxation to lively celebration. The crew encouraged everyone to get up and dance, and soon the deck was filled with laughter and music. It was a joyous end to a perfect day at sea, and as we docked back at the port, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience.
