It is commonly referred to as the fountain of shame due to the excessive costs incurred for its purchase, the ongoing rise in expenses, and the seemingly endless additional costs, which the people of Palermo deemed “shameful.”
• Piazza della Rivoluzione - Admire the statue of the Genius of Palermo, a city symbol installed in the 17th century but removed by the Bourbon administration following the Sicilian revolution of 1848. After Garibaldi liberated Sicily in 1860, the fountain and statue, which had become a patriotic emblem, were reunited, and the piazza was renamed.
