Before the DMZ ID check (remember to bring your passport), there will be stops at three locations in Imjingak Park: the Bridge of Freedom, Mangbaedan Altar, and a steam locomotive from the Korean War, constructed in 1972 for North Korean refugees.
- The Third Tunnel - The Third Tunnel, excavated by North Korea beneath the DMZ, is approximately 12 km from Munsan and 52 km from Seoul. Discovered in 1978, it can accommodate 30,000 soldiers per hour. Visitors will walk inside and then view a short film at the DMZ Theater about Korea’s division and the area’s unique ecosystem.
- Please wear comfortable shoes as the tunnel can be slippery at times.
- Dora Observatory - Dora Observatory, the northernmost observatory on Korea’s west side, is located atop Mt. Dora and opened in 1987. On clear days, visitors can see the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, Mt. Songak, North Korean villages, and more through the rooftop telescopes.
- Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge - Visitors will choose between visiting Gamaksan or Majang Lake. If time is limited, this site may be omitted.
The first stop is a 15-minute hike to one of Korea’s longest suspension bridges (150 m), which was once a significant Korean War battlefield. From the top, there are stunning views of Mt. Gamaksan.
- Majang Lake - Visitors will choose between visiting Gamaksan or Majang Lake. If time is limited, this site may be omitted.
This location witnessed intense battles during the Korean War, where many Allied soldiers gave their lives defending Seoul. Key battles occurred in April 1951 (Delta Defense Line) and May 1951 (Kansas Line).
