Sunset Birdwatching Experience at Saline Culcasi - An unforgettable experience immersed in nature and history: sunset birdwatching at the Saline Culcasi is a journey through colors, silences and natural wonders that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to discover an authentic corner of western Sicily. The experience began with a guided tour of the salt pans, where we were explained with great clarity and passion the millennial history of salt harvesting. The landscape, dominated by evaporation tanks that reflect the sky, is truly impressive. We discovered how salt is still harvested according to traditional methods, a true cultural heritage as well as natural. We then had the opportunity to taste different types of local salt, including garlic-flavored flower salt, accompanied by an explanation of their characteristics and uses in the kitchen. A tasty and curious moment, perfect to appreciate the quality of an ancient product but still fully current. The visit to the restored windmill was fascinating: a small jewel of industrial archaeology that allowed us to better understand the techniques used in the past for grinding salt. The inside of the mill can be visited, and climbing to the top to admire the view is really exciting. The most magical moment came at sunset, when we moved to the birdwatching area. In an almost unreal silence, broken only by the sounds of birds, we could observe the pink flamingos in the water tanks, bathed in a golden light that seemed unreal. Seeing them up close, free in their natural habitat, was exciting and almost touching. In summary, the experience at Saline Culcasi is a perfect balance between culture, nature and tradition. An activity suitable for all ages, which leaves the heart full of beauty and wonder. Absolutely not to be missed. Special thanks to the guide Enrico who made it all even more magical and authentic!
