Take a trip to Hill Top farmhouse, the former abode of Beatrix Potter, and admire the surroundings that sparked ideas for her literature. Entry to Hill Top is covered, but if Hill Top is not open for visitors, The World of Beatrix Potter will be the alternative. (Hill Top is not accessible on Fridays apart from during UK school holidays, and from November to February).
Proceed to the delightful medieval village of Hawkshead, where poet William Wordsworth was educated, and then proceed through the striking scenery of the central lakes which provide lakeside and woodland vistas. Gain deeper insights about the beloved children’s author from your well-informed guide.
- Children must be 5 years or older
- There will be places in Hawkshead to buy food or drink but we recommend you have Lunch before the tour.
- There are toilet stops on route
- Minimal walking is involved
- Our vehicles are not currently wheelchair accessible
- Luggage storage is available at the Windermere Information departure location
- Seats cannot be reserved
- Each passenger must have their own seat
- Entrance to Hill Top farm is included, however when Hill Top is closed customers will visit The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. (Hill Top is closed on Friday’s outside UK school holidays and November - February).
- Please note, the pick up location you have chosen is where you will be collected from. It is not possible to be collected from a different location once chosen. If you are not at the correct pick up location and miss the tour, we cannot offer alternative arrangements.
- If you are returning back to Oxenholme for a train, we recommend booking a train that departs after 6pm to ensure you are dropped off in good time.

Relaxed and informative. - Thanks to Tim from Mountain Goat tours for making our tour so informative and pleasant. Exceptional relaxed and friendly environment. Tim is able to drive as well in reverse as he can in a forward direction. A handy skill on such quaint country lanes.

1 day Lake District tour - Tim was an absolutely outstanding tour guide from start to finish. His deep knowledge of the area, combined with a natural storytelling ability, brought every stop on the tour to life. He was extremely kind . He welcomed questions and always had thoughtful, insightful answers.
If you’re looking for a guide who is passionate, professional, and personable, i would highly recommend Tim as a guide

Best tour ever! - It’s incredible. The weather was really bad and Mark tried his best to change the itinerary and add check points to make us feel better. The experience is heartwarming and unforgettable !

The best way to experience the Lake Disctrict if hiking not your thing. - I highly recommend Mountain Goat tours. My husband & I normally just explore places for ourselves, however this tour really was a high point of our holiday, and will absolutely take another tour by this company.
We didn't have to worry about parking both of us could check out the views en-route to each stop and all stops were excellently timed, not too long or short.
Our tour Guide Peter Fox (not Rabbit) was very welcoming and had great commentry throughout the tour, pointing out many things along the way to each stop, that we would have not noticed or knew anything about, had we toured about ourselves, this coupled with all the stops we had, really is value for money.
I've taken loads of photo's and had such a memorable day even my husband agreed it was the highlight of our trip.
If you're new to visiting the Lake District, a Mountain Goat tour really is the best way to see the sights & if you're fortunate enough to have Peter as you're guide you won't be disappointed. I'm really looking forward to booking another trip in the future.
The icing on the cake for the day was the stunning weather.

Terrific Tour -- A Bucket List Life Moment - Peter Fox was a terrific guide! The bus was warm and cozy, and the tour included all the essentials. First a wonderful boat tour of Windermere where we could stand on the top of the boat and see everything. Then a visit to the castle where Beatrix spent her summers. Peter was full of knowledge and helped us have the best tour possible. We went straight into Hill Top with no delays. So lovely! A bucket list moment for me. Very special!

Magical - It was an amazing tour, very informative and culturally a realisation of a dream, to see places I have only read as a student! The cruise was very tranquil as the lake waters glistened in the sunshine!

Disappointing - The booking company via tour did not tell us that we were not going to be going to hilltop because hilltop is closed on Fridays until July. This was very disappointing, and we felt that they were not honest and only wanted to get a booking.
