Rainbows in the Mist – A Day at the Ouzoud Waterfalls" - The mist caught the sunlight in tiny rainbows as it drifted toward me, cool against my face, while a monkey on the rock above clutched a stolen biscuit like a tiny, smug king. Somewhere beyond the roar of water, I could hear laughter carried by the wind, and for a moment, I forgot the world was bigger than this gorge.
Hicham had picked us up just after dawn, the streets of Marrakech still soft with early light. He drove with an easy calm, humming a tune I didn’t recognise, pausing only to greet shepherds as we passed. The road wound through olive groves and clay-coloured hills, the scent of damp earth rising after a night’s cool. Once, we slowed for a line of goats crossing the road, their bells chiming faintly in the still air.
Our guide, Mustapha, met us at the top of the trail — a quiet man with eyes that seemed to know every turn of the mountain. The path was uneven, sometimes shaded by leaning trees, sometimes open to the relentless heat. The air was thick with the smell of wet stone and wild herbs crushed underfoot. And then, just as my legs began to ache, the forest seemed to exhale — monkeys appeared, bold and curious, chattering in the branches, watching us with an intelligence that made me smile.
At the base, the Ouzoud Waterfalls revealed themselves in a rush of sound and spray. We boarded a small boat painted in fading blues, and as we drifted closer, the roar grew until it filled my chest. “Hold on!” the boatman shouted, grinning, just before the cold spray drenched us. I laughed without thinking — a sound that felt like it belonged to the water itself.
Lunch was served at a low table beside the river: a fragrant lamb tajine, fresh tomato salad, bread still warm, and mint tea poured in a bright, foaming arc. Leaves rustled overhead, the waterfall’s voice softened by distance. Mustapha told us a story about his grandfather guiding travellers before there were proper trails, his words threading the past into the present.
The return drive was quiet, the car heavy with the pleasant exhaustion of a day spent outside time. I half-dozed as the sun dipped, hills turning gold, then violet. This was more than a day trip — it felt like something ancient whispered to us through water and stone.
If nature humbles you, the marrakech to ouzoud route is a must. This ouzoud waterfalls day trip from marrakech was the soul of Morocco in motion.

Wonderful experience - The trip was organised very good. The guys sent me message on what's up about the pick up time and place. Very good communication with the agency. The guide was very attentive and helpful, able to speak 3 languages (english, french, spanish).
The waterfall itself-AMAZING! Absolutely worth to travel 3h one way from Marrakech. The pace of the trip was quite fast but we were told and shown a lot of interesting things;we had time to swim, feed lovely monkeys and have a very tasty 3 course lunch at berber restaurant.
We all loved it and we were very impressed. 100% recommend!
Thank you again guys!!!

Enjoyed Day trip to Cascades D'Ouzoud with Snoubi Travelling, and found it worthwhile - but one should research to be aware of what to expect, no surprises. Used Viator/Tripadvisor (have used and trusted) at $23 per person; you can get $17 pp. Lunch, boat ride at the falls, local guide, not included, which was fine with us since I did a lot of research. Online info said the ride ends at a big parking lot and one will see lodging signs that will help with navigation. Our ride ended at what looks like a private parking lot; no way will we be able to find the start of the trail. Local guide Mohammed became necessary; he was educated, can speak several languages, can take good pictures, very helpful; very impressive. The path, which we definitely won't be able to find on our own, is through vegetation, with some viewpoints but we did not stop at any unlike what other postings said. Boat ride (I could have skipped) at 30DH pp reasonable and a contribution to the local economy. Everyone, except me and hubby, had lunch where Mohammed took us; cost somewhat more than where we ate at the Djema square. Return path is paved, not steep. When it came to the cost of the local guide, one posting said 30DH is actually a tip and the claim of free guide is technically correct; $2 or $3 is not a lot but a sore point if unaware and not used to tipping.
Trip was worth it, our guide (likely others too) and tip were too, anyone reasonably fit can do it. I suggest to travel operators to say " guide is free but tip expected" to prevent disgruntled guide and surprised tourists

Great experience - This experience was definitely worth what we paid - my sister and I did this trip on Wednesday (4 September) with Said. He was very efficient - messaging beforehand to confirm the hotel we were staying at and messaged the day before to confirm pick up time.
Be aware: This day trip does not include a guide. On arrival a guide will be there and will explain that you can go solo or use the guide for a fee (30 dirhams each - around £3.00) so definitely worth paying - we wouldn't have known where to start otherwise.
Girlies - sandals are fine but you're best to wear trainers as it's a little slippery on the way down, especially if it's been raining the day or a couple of days before, so be mindful!
Also a good idea to pack your own toilet paper as the toilet facilities there didn't have much, and a little change for using them.

Definitely worth what we paid - I paid for the trip before I came to Morocco as it looked like the most appealing site seeing tour during my short stay in Marrakech. I also ordered using their offer of a small discount plus all the reviews were very good. We were picked up on time by a friendly driver and eventually made our way. Its a long drive depending on where you're located, about 2.5plus hours. I'd advise you to take a small snack and liquids to drink. When you arrive you get a tour of the olive gardens etc and eventually to the Waterfall. Take sensible shoes as there is alot of walking but you get to see so much so it's worth it. The boat ride over to the waterfall was 20 diram each and lunch at the restaurant is 100 diram each. Again, this will depend on the package you buy but be aware. The main guide was very friendly and paced the tour very well. When I had a small problem having left my card at the hotel, the company were so helpful in helping me sort this out. Highly recommended the tour and the company. Made our experience here extra special :-)
