IT started later then expected, the route was up en down over the same way. Good en veruit nice driver and a scinic route
Our driver was a lot of fun and provided a lot of info about the area. He did his best to make our tour fun and worthwhile despite the questionable weather. He was prepared for the snow and rain with ponchos and blankets. Well worth the money. And the other people on the tour were entertaining as well.
Great trip and Jay was fantastic.
I have had 2 other experiences that were extremely fun with this company. This last time wasn’t as fun because I got put on a Jeep with much older people. I felt this is why I didn’t have as much fun. The Jeep went slow and there was too much mining history talk. The views are always wonderful. We went to Ysnkee Boy which was fun, I loved the last time when I got to see the top of red mountain as well.
This was incredibly fun! I loved it so much I'll be back with my grandchildren. Our guide was incredibly insightful and included the one youngster in our group to make the tour amazing for him as well. I doubt there is a more knowledgeable person in Ouray about the history of the area.

Even though there was rain and a flat tire, we still had a good time. Next time we will come in July to see the wildflowers.
The guide knew a great deal about the area, the history and everything, and was an absolutely rock-solid safe driver. It was my second trip with visiting guests and I will happily go back again.
Casual approach to tour...felt more like a private guide...we were the only ones on tour, so I guess it was a private tour. Jay was informal, accommodating to our needs and knowledgeable. The fact that we didn’t sign legal papers prior to trip speaks volumes to how you approach this venture. We had no expectations about what we were to see. Centering the tour around old mines was fascinating to all 3 of us. We felt we got more than our money’s worth.

Our driver was very informative, his love of the area made for an enjoyable experience.
Saw beautiful scenery and enjoyed commentary by driver.
The views were incredible. Our guide John was excellent and gave us a lot of insight and history of the old mine camps and the work that was put into running those mines. Being a little over 12,000 feet up was awesome. I would definitely love to come back again and tour more of the San Juan Mountains with San Juan Scenic Tours.
Jim knew alot about the history of the area. The drive was absolutely beautiful, despite the hazy skies from the fires. The only suggestion I would make to San Juan Jeeps is don't worry about the competition. There is no need to bad mouth other jeep tours in area.
Big Jim was very informative and an excellent guide.
Jay was an excellent drive and guide that provided more of a tour than we thought possible. It was a great day!
Jim, our driver, was wonderful. He stopped frequently to explain the terrain, was very knowledgeable and answered our questions. It rained on us 3 times and each time Jim made sure we were comfortable and put the canopy on. The trip was not rushed and we felt like he was genuinely interested in us as his guests and made sure we got to see the sights we were interested in.
We had a great time! Jim was our guide and he really made the trip great! He was so knowledgeable and aware of his customers. He made it educational and fun!
This is the only company I use when doing back country excursion in Ouray (3 times), They have been around the longest, drivers all very experienced and accommodating to there guests. I especially like that it is a family run business (those are getting harder and harder to find) : )
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and an expert behind the wheel. Would do it again!
Jim, our driver, was very informative about the area. The day and scenery could not have been any more spectacular.
Jim is as confident and poised in the event of rain going up a Rocky Mountain! We got to see everything we hoped for and more. Unforgettable!
I live in Ouray and I always choose this company when I have visitors. I can always count on San Juan Scenic Jeep tours to show my friends and family a great time.
The tour was fantastic. Our driver was knowledgeable and created a fun and relaxed environment. Would recommend and absolutely would do it again!
We had the jeep and the driver all to ourselves..... unfortunately for them - the other 'travellers' cancelled. John our driver was very informative, helpful, attentive and ready to answer any and all questions. It couldn't have been a nicer day - weather wise and the scenery was spectacular.... Thanks for a wonderful time.
We had such a great time. The driver was informative and also very flexible. We highly recommend this experience!
A little preachy, but still a valuable experience. This was our fourth trip with these folks stretched over 20 years and four vacations. They all been worth the time and money. This is a must add to any itinerary that includes Ouray. There is no other comparable experience.
Not only got the tour but also was very good about giving the history of the area we toured, and was willing to stop let us off the jeep and check areas. Also while other on tour were wanting the mild version ,he was willing to spice it up a little for us more daring ones.
Great service, great guide (Greg)
Took a half day tour up into Camp Bird mining district. Wanted the full day, but just couldn't fit it into our schedule. Our driver was personable and knowledgeable about the history, geology and biology of the area. Our group was given a choice of which way to go, and chose the more intense trip. Definitely an off-road experience! Though this made my wife a bit nervous, it was a memorable trip. Hopefully I can talk her into taking the full day trip to Telluride next time around.
We thoroughly enjoyed going up the mountain and seeing the waterfalls and views at the top!!
Our guide, Jim, was very knowledgeable and educated us on the history of not just the mines, but the town and surrounding area. He made everyone feel safe by stressing the importance of respecting nature and gravity. We would definitely go again.
Excellent outfit. Our tour was lead by Jim. Such a real down to earth, honest and friendly guy. He was so knowledgeable about the area, the history and the mines, which added to the value of the tour. Jim really cared about each of us, on the tour... And allowed us to make it ours. We will be back!
It was so much fun, a little scary but beautiful
Awesome experience with Jim! He was a great guide, very knowledgeable about the area, and asked for our input on what we wanted to see (mines, wildlife, etc). Absolutely worth the money, would do it again and would definitely highly recommend to other visitors!
Our guide Jim was so helpful and informative and helped us experience the tour at a very personal level. We learned a lot from his narrative about mining and had several thrilling adventures on the road though the mining towns and bumpy, ridiculous roads to get there. We were quite chilly on our adventure, but Jim provided blankets to keep us warm. An adventure not soon to forget! Will definitely book through you again. I like the fact that San Juan Jeep Tour is the oldest tour available in Ouray and offers tours not available through other sites.
The guide was very knowledgeable and informative. My wife and I enjoyed the outing very much and will recommend the San Juan jeep tours to our friends and family.
The tour was incredible. Words don't do it justice. Greg was so friendly and accommodating. Next time we're in the area we will definitely be back. Thank you!
