Tizi n Tichka - Depart from Marrakech at approximately 07:30. Travel over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n Tichka pass, which is at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of Berber villages and the majestic mountains. Before reaching the fortified Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, visit the beautiful Kasbah of Telouet.
Kasbah du Pacha el Glaoui - Discover a hidden gem in the Atlas Mountains at an elevation of 1,800 meters. Telouet Kasbah is located along the historic caravan route from the Sahara across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. It was the seat of power for the El Glaoui family, often referred to as the Palace of Glaoui. Construction began in 1860 and continued to expand over the years.
TICKET COST: 2 EUROS PER PERSON.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Located 30 km before Ouarzazate, this fortified Kasbah was built in the 11th century. It was once a key stop on the caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Perched on a hill along the Ounila River, it features stunning examples of Kasbahs, though they suffer damage from rain and windstorms. Most residents now live in a modern village across the river, but about five families still reside within the Kasbah. Ait Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and has been featured in films such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Time Bandits (1981), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), Kundun (1997), Gladiator (2000), and Alexander (2004).
Agdz - Take a brief break for restrooms or continue the journey.
Draa Valley - Pause to capture photos of the Draa Valley River. The Draa is Morocco’s longest river, stretching 1,100 kilometers. It is formed by the confluence of the Dadès and Imini Rivers, flowing from the High Atlas Mountains southeast to Tagounite, then mostly westward to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Tan-Tan.
Zagora - Arrive in Zagora and enjoy a camel trek to witness a breathtaking sunset over the dunes. Spend the night in a luxurious desert camp under the stars, savoring a traditional Moroccan dinner.
Day 2: Zagora - Ouarzazate - Marrakech.
Zagora - Rise early to witness a magical sunrise, followed by a Berber breakfast. Embark on a camel ride for about an hour and a half, then meet your driver to return to Ouarzazate.
CLA Studios - Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” is a tranquil town at the edge of the desert, south of the High Atlas Mountains. It is primarily inhabited by Berbers, who built many of the area’s notable Kasbahs and structures, including the Taourirt Kasbah, dating back to the 17th century. The town earned its nickname due to its popularity as a filming location, hosting Morocco’s largest studios and attracting international film companies for movies like Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997), and Babel (2005).
After exploring the beautiful sights of Ouarzazate, return to Marrakech, arriving around 18:00 for drop-off at your accommodation or the airport, concluding your trip.
