As a local from Osaka, I am deeply tied to my native culture. My mother’s high school taught Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan, and I was equally educated in its principles through regular classes and tests. I studied the Kojiki, often referred to as the Shinto bible, to understand the Shinto philosophy. Embracing these teachings increased the value I place on visiting Shinto shrines, a practice I maintain to this day by frequently visiting a local shrine where I currently reside. I manage my own hostel in Osaka, and it brings me great joy to share my experiences with guests from all corners of the globe.
In Osaka, a pilgrimage known as “Naniwa Shichi-kō Meguri” takes participants on a journey to Japanese Buddism Shinto shrines. The idea behind it is to bestow upon you seven kinds of luck and confer seven different benefits. Included as part of this tour is a stamp rally where we visit various shrines and temples, collecting their red ink stamps in a traditional stamp book which I provide as you commence the tour. I take pleasure in adding to your knowledge by sharing the history of each shrine and temple we visit. Naturally, I am also eager to indulge in cultural exchange discussions.
