It remains deeply intertwined with Japanese history to this day. The stone walls, moats, Otemon Gate, Tamon Yagura, Sengan Yagura, and other historical structures visible today date from the Tokugawa period onwards. The area is designated as a Special Historic Site by the national government, with most ancient buildings recognized as Important Cultural Properties.
