Visitors have the opportunity to feed these deer special crackers and enjoy close interactions with them. The park also features several World Heritage sites, including Todai-ji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, offering a beautiful blend of natural beauty and historical landmarks.
- Tōdai-ji - Todai-ji Temple serves as the main temple of the Kegon sect of Buddhism in Japan. Founded in 728 AD and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, its Great Buddha Hall is the largest wooden structure globally, standing about 48 meters tall and housing a massive statue of Vairocana Buddha over 15 meters high. The Nandai-mon (Great South Gate) is flanked by two imposing Niō statues, each around 8 meters tall, creating a breathtaking view.
- Kasuga Grand Shrine - Established in 768 AD, Kasuga Taisha Shrine was constructed as the protective shrine of the influential Fujiwara clan and acts as the principal shrine for around 3,000 Kasuga shrines throughout Japan. As visitors stroll along the wooded path, the striking vermilion shrine buildings contrast beautifully with the lush greenery. Over 2,000 stone and hanging lanterns adorn the grounds, fostering a tranquil and sacred ambiance, and when all the lanterns are illuminated at dusk, the scene becomes especially magical.
- Byodoin Temple - Byodo-in Temple, founded in 1052 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, features the Phoenix Hall, a designated National Treasure of Japan depicted on the 10-yen coin. The architectural design symbolizes a phoenix spreading its wings, and its reflection on the Aji-ike pond represents the Pure Land Paradise of Amitabha Buddha. The hall is topped with a pair of phoenix statues on its roof, making it a remarkable example of Japanese architectural history.
- Tale of Genji Museum - The Tale of Genji Museum is the only public museum worldwide dedicated to Japan’s most esteemed classical literary work, The Tale of Genji. Through models, films, and immersive exhibits, the museum vividly recreates the refined aristocratic world of the protagonist, Hikaru Genji, along with the “Ten Chapters of Uji”, set in Uji. A library with over 3,000 volumes is also available for visitors interested in further exploration.
- Uji Natural Hot Spring Genji-no-Yu - Genji-no-Yu is the sole natural hot spring facility in Uji city. Its spring water emerges from 1,111 meters underground, earning it the title of “millennia-old warmth”. The facility includes three indoor baths, an open-air bath, and a sauna. The chloride-rich spring water is renowned for its skin-moisturizing qualities and enduring warmth. Constructed in a traditional Japanese architectural style, it offers a peaceful and restorative atmosphere reminiscent of a secluded mountain onsen.
