Even the most experienced divers are left in awe during their first fluorescent night dive. The reef transforms into an entirely different world. Descriptions often include terms like “Extraterrestrial,” “Disco diving,” and “a different dimension.”
Fluorescence is a completely passive phenomenon occurring in some marine creatures. It requires no energy from them, and the evolutionary reason for this reaction remains a mystery to scientists. What is known is that certain marine animals and corals emit a glow when exposed to a specific wavelength of light, while others appear unchanged compared to a regular night dive.
Coral conservationists utilize fluorescence to spot “coral recruits” on reefs. Coral recruits are coral polyps that have attached themselves to the reef substrate to establish a new colony. They are small and difficult to detect during the day but become highly visible as bright little dots during a fluorescent dive.
The shore dive will take place at The Hole in the Wall.

The fluorescent night diving expeditions don’t employ blacklights, but rather a specific shade of blue light. Although a blacklight could technically work, the blue light we use proves more efficient due to water’s inherent characteristics. Obtaining the ideal effect involves removing the blue glint from the reflected light, hence, divers use yellow-tinted visors over their masks, which filter out the blue, allowing only the fluorescent hues to be seen.
To ensure unrivalled experiences, we only entrust our operations to the highest quality equipment in the industry. Numerous studies have been conducted to ascertain that we are using the right gear to generate the perfect light wavelength that maximizes coral excitation.
