Cusco – Km 82 – Hatunchaca - Patallacta – Ayapata

Ollantaytambo - The AB team will collect guests from their hotel in Cusco at 4:30 a.m. to commence the 4-day Inca Trail. After enjoying breakfast in Ollantaytambo, the journey continues to km 82 (Piscakucho) to start the adventure to Machu Picchu. Here, the expert team will be introduced, and the checkpoint will be passed. The trek begins with a 3-hour hike to the Llactapata ruins, followed by a one-hour drive to Hatunchaca camp for a delightful lunch. The day concludes with a 4-hour hike to Ayapata, the first campsite, where tents will be ready and hot tea will be served upon arrival around 5:00 p.m.

Ayapata – Dead Woman’s Pass - Runkuraqay – Chaquicocha

Wayllabamba - The day starts early with a wake-up call of hot tea or coca tea, marking the most challenging day of the 4-day trek to Machu Picchu. A 4-hour hike leads to Dead Woman’s Pass (4215m / 13829ft), the highest point of the Inca Trail Trek, offering stunning landscapes and a chance for the guide to make offerings to the local Gods. The descent to Pacaymayu Valley follows, with a 2-hour journey and a delicious lunch prepared by the chef. The trek continues with a 1.5-hour hike to the second pass, Runqurakay (4000m / 13123ft), exploring the Inca site of the same name, before descending to Sayacmarca ruins. The day ends at the second campsite, Chaquicocha (3600m / 11811ft), where guests can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Vilcabamba mountain range and gaze at the Milky Way before dinner.

Chaquicocha – Intipata – Wiñaywayna

Winay Wayna - This day offers a more relaxed pace with 5 hours of hiking to the final campsite. Starting with a gentle Peruvian flat terrain for about 2 hours, the trek descends to the campsite, showcasing diverse ecosystems and panoramic views of the Salkantay glacier, the second-highest peak in the Cusco region. Along the way, two Inca ruins, Phuyupatamarka and Intipata, will be explored, with the guide providing insights into each site. Upon reaching Intipata ruins, the last campsite becomes visible, and after a brief explanation from the guide, arrival at the campsite is around 12:30 p.m. After lunch, guests can shower and relax with a siesta until about 4 p.m., when a short hike to explore the Inca ruins of Wiñaywayna is planned, allowing free time for photography. Returning to the campsite, farewells are made to the dedicated porters, and dinner is enjoyed before retiring early to prepare for the next day’s adventures.

Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - The much-anticipated conclusion of the journey arrives as guests rise early to embark on the final stretch of the Inca Trail, passing the checkpoint at 5:30 a.m. A 1-hour and 20-minute hike leads to the Sun Gate, offering breathtaking views of the sunrise over Machu Picchu. A 45-minute descent follows, reaching the Mapi checkpoint around 8:00 a.m. The experienced tour guide then leads a 2-hour exploration of the citadel before boarding a tourist bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Departure on the train is scheduled for either 14:55 or 15:20 p.m., with the AB team waiting at the station to accompany guests back to their hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, with an expected return around 7:00 p.m. For those trekking Huayna Picchu Mountain, arrangements for lunch and duffle bag pickup are made with the guide before taking the train.
