Tully was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful in pointing out great spots for sunrise photos. I'd highly recommend Phillips and Tully as your guide.
Fantastic sights and great guide. !!
Great tour and service. As a professional travel photographer in Monument Valley for a magazine assignment, I did many researches to see if I could reach Totem Pole and Artist's Point on my own but understood it was impossible - I needed an experienced tour guide to get me in those locations at the right time (sunrise or sunset). I never use photo tour but in Monument Valley you have to and Philips Photo Tours are the best. Very happy to have done this!
I did both the sunrise and sunset tours and both were fantastic. Tully and Carlos were both excellent guides. I thought they both went above and beyond what they were required to do to give me a good tour and I would like to do the overnight mesa excursion with them next time I come out. Just one minor nit: the "sunset" tour ended at 7PM, about 15 minutes before actual sunset. I would have preferred it start and end a half hour later so as to include the actual time of sunset. OTOH we did get to photograph the sunrise earlier that day.
Carl was helpful and informative.
Do not miss the chance to truly experience Monument Valley. With Ray Phillips as your guide you will be in the best (not fastest or easiest) spot to truly get magnificent photos no matter your experience. You will benefit from his lifetime of photography experience in the area, as well as his family’s. Not only in placement in the valley, but lighting, framing and challenging how you look at and perceive what you are seeing. He is so willing to share with very helpful instructions if asked about camera settings and framing to get the most out of your opportunities. He automatically adjusts to any physical challenges of those on his tour might have. He is generous in his willingness to share his knowledge of the Navajo/Pueblo culture and history that is so rich in this area. Ray’s passion and love of this valley shows in everything he does and is passed on to those who choose to travel with him. To not take one of his tours would be to not to have experienced this stunning and magical land.
Very knowledgeable guide, Ray made a wonderful photography experience.
Ray has an excellent knowledge of photographic locations and a wealth of local knowledge. Very helpful and a pleasure to work with.
I had a great experience with both the sunrise and sunset photo experiences. I highly recommend to anyone looking to have a truly amazing photo trip.
Ray was very informative and helpful. He was never rushed or intrusive and was very good at giving us hints about settings and how to get a great photo of the site we were visiting. He shared a lot of great info about his people and their history which added a lot to the sights we were seeing. He pointed out things we would never have seen on out own and how to get the best shot in that light. We took both the sunrise and sunset tour in one day and there was absolutely no repetition in sites of stories. Ray has some amazing driving skills! We had never driven straight up the side of a rock mountain before! It was a great day.
On behalf of me and my wife and two other fellow travelers, we were very appreciative of the competence and friendliness of our Phillips Photography Tours Guide by the name of Tully. He took us to amazing places for photography both for the Monument Valley Sunrise Tour and for the Mystery Valley Sunset Tour. Our sunrise experience at the Totems was absolutely breathtaking. If you want to go to unique places in Monument or Mystery Valley to capture amazing photography images, chose Phillips Photography Tours and ask for Tully or his brother Ray as your guide. You will not be disappointed. Bob and Betty from Idaho Falls, ID and Jack and Dianne from Portland, OR.
Ray did a fantastic job of enthusiastically showing use the best photography locations and assisting us with our camera functions. I would highly recommend Ray again.
Excellent guide, I got the photographs I wanted, would highly recommend this tour ! Thank you so much, my girlfriend and I enjoyed it !!!
I loved our guide Ray! He shared so much of himself, his knowledge of Monument Valley and the Navajo culture and traditions. He knew exactly where to go for the best morning light and even how to frame the shots. And I mean the precise location for superb photos. I have been on photo tours in Europe, Cuba, etc, and this is one of the best I have ever had! I strongly recommend this company over all others. ( I did do one other photo tour in Monument Valley with another company and Phillips is definitely the best! Ask for Ray!
Our guide was great, the weather didn't cooperate so he took us around different areas of the park and was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We will definitely book another tour with you guys in the future.
Ray, my guide, was knowledgable and helpful about timing, location, history and photography. He was easy to talk with and enjoyed what he was doing......great job.
The day was perfect and the guides with us knew exactly where to take for good photos and was all very unhurried
Philips Monument Valley Sunrise Tour was outstanding. This is the second time we used Carl's company and would recommend them to any serious photographer. The tour guides are photographers and know the light and this breathing region like the back of there hands. Ray was our tour guide and he was fantastic. Worth every penny.
Very knowledgeable photographer and guide. Got fantastic photographs.
Excellent guide who took the time to chat and give advice on shots at each location.
Our guide Ray was wonderful! He took us to many great spots to photograph, told us stories about each monument, and shared personal stories about himself, his family, and his Navajo upbringing. The song he sang at the end of the tour was beautiful. We could have spent the entire day with him touring around the valley. Thank you for the experience. My mom and I will cherish it always.
Guide was very helpful and provided tons of insight on composition and lighting
Great tour, this is my second time and would go again. Ray is very helpful in pointing out great angles. Freindly and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience - Tully was a wonderful guide and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to others :)
My husband and I took the sunset tour, and then my husband returned for the sunrise tour the next morning. Both tours were fantastic. Our guide, Thule, was very knowledgeable and was able to take us to remote areas that we would have never found on our own. Highly recommend this tour!
Knowledgable and personable took us to best spots at best time of day for great photos.
Die Sunrise - Tour mit Ray war wunderbar mit seinen Kenntnissen als Fotograf sowie von der Landschaft für traumhafte Fotos. Udo Richter / Germany
Ray was an excellent guide. Punctual, informative, thoughtful. His understanding of the area and photography was the best combination.
A fantastic experience. Tulley met me at the View Hotel lobby right on time and off we went just the two of us in a comfortable suburban. Very friendly and informative. Since he has been doing this for 16 years he has got it down. Went out to totem pole for the sunrise shot and then move to the other side to capture the dunes and shadows. While we were there another group from Phillips arrived. Ray and Karl were leading this group. However both came over to introduce themselves and suggested some alternative camera adjustments. Ended up with some great shots. Then Tulley and I took off to some other great locations. All in all a great company to hire for photography insights of Monument Valley
We had both the sunrise and sunset tour with Ray Begay. He was EXCELLENT! He was very helpful in getting just the right photos. Also, helped in knowing what kind of lens was best and if a tripod was needed. His vehicle was comfortable. I would suggest that the tours provide water. We didn't have any in the morning. We requested some for the evening tour and it was provided. Also. I would suggest that the company put on their website and emails what the customary tip should be for the guide. There was no information on this and I think it should be provided so people will tip appropriately. Also, I would suggest that you include on your site and emails that there is some walking involved for those who may be handicapped.
Wonderful sunrise. Carl and his tour was great !Thank you for all!!
Our guide, Ray Begay, was wonderful and I highly recommend him as a guide. Not only does he know the land but he understands what photographers are looking for to get that unique perspective shot. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and learned a great deal about the history and culture of the area from him.
Ray was a great guide; he really understands his business. He did know great locations in Monument Valley, but what sets him apart from other guides is his knowledge about the technical part of taking photographs. He gave us some important tips. We could take some fantastic sunrise pictures, but after that the weather got unfortunately pretty bad. Still Ray found some nice supjects for a photograph. It was well worth getting up very early. In the end we were happy with our pictures. I can only recommend this tour with Ray.
Ray was a great guide, with his insight and help I was able to capture some great photos using just my iPhone!
