- Fortaleza de São Julião Da Barra - The Fort of São Julião da Barra stands as the largest and most comprehensive military defense complex in Portugal, designed in the Vauban style. It is situated in São Julião da Barra, at the tip of São Gião, in the far west of Oeiras, within the parish of Oeiras and São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos, and Caxias.
Historically regarded as the Shield of the Kingdom, it was the most significant maritime fortification in the country. Originally, it worked alongside the São Lourenço do Bugio Fort to control the entry and exit of vessels at the Tagus bar and access to the port of Lisbon.
Today, it serves as the official residence of the Minister of National Defense of Portugal.
- Farol do Bugio - The Bugio Lighthouse is located within the Fort of São Lourenço do Bugio, at the mouth of the Tagus River, facing Cova do Vapor, Trafaria (to the south in the District of Setúbal), and the town and municipality of Oeiras Norte in the District of Lisbon.
This lighthouse features a circular stone tower, painted white, topped with a red lantern and balcony, all within a circular fort.
- Torre de Belém - The Torre de Belém is situated in the parish of Belém, within the municipality and district of Lisbon, Portugal. Positioned on the right bank of the Tagus River, where Belém beach once lay, it was initially surrounded by water. Over the centuries, the beach encroached, and today it is part of the mainland.
As one of the city’s landmarks, this monument is an icon of the architectural style from the reign of D. Manuel I, blending medieval tower traditions with modern bulwark designs, where artillery was once stationed.
Over time, the tower’s defensive role diminished, and during the Filipino occupation, the old storerooms were converted into dungeons. The tower’s four floors still house the Governor’s Room, the Kings Room, the Audience Hall, and the Chapel with its fifteenth-century vaults.
- Padrão dos Descobrimentos - The journey through Lisbon leads to the Discoveries Monument, offering views of the 25 de Abril Bridge and Cristo Rei up close. A boat ride provides a unique perspective of this monument, the only way to fully appreciate the figure of Henry the Navigator.
