Upon arrival at the Green Grotto Caves, an entrance fee of US$20 for adults and US$10 for children is required. You will be introduced to your tour guide, who will lead you through the experience. There is much to see and learn during this tour.

The Green Grotto Caves are historically significant, having sheltered Jamaica’s first inhabitants, the Tainos, served as a refuge for runaway slaves in the 18th century, and provided a hideout for the Spanish during the English takeover in 1655. Between the World Wars, the caves were used by smugglers transporting arms to Cuba, and more recently, parts of the caves were used as a rum storehouse.

A tour of the Green Grotto Caves offers an extraordinary journey into Jamaica’s “innerworld.” In less than an hour, your guide will lead you through a labyrinth of impressive stalactites and stalagmites, along with other stunning dripstone formations. Continue through the interconnected passageways and chambers, descending 37 meters to the cave’s deepest cavern, where you will discover the grotto, featuring water of unparalleled clarity.

On your way out of this captivating tour, pause at the “Wishing Well” to toss a coin for luck, love, or whatever your heart desires.
