Zona Arqueologica de Monte Alban - Explore the cultural treasures surrounding Oaxaca on a 2.5-hour trip. We start at Monte Albán, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, discover the wonderful buildings of this ancient Zapotec city, as well as its history and culture.
Due to the COVID-19 contingency, the time for this tour may last longer than the time established in the itinerary.
Note: the use of face masks, glasses or face shield is mandatory.
The pick-up begins at 7:00 am, because there is a line of approximately 2 hours to access the archaeological zone. The tour ends at approximately 1:30 pm

Incredible site, best enjoyed with a wise guide - The site is absolutely stunning, but he also had an excellent guide that explained what we were seeing, and most importantly, left us in peace to enjoy the site without being constantly followed.

Viator’s Monte Albán Tour: Perfect 4-hour Trip - The trip focused on Monte Alban and its history. Our tour guide - Antonio - was fantastic. He was well-versed in Spanish and English and took the pains to patiently describe the culture and history of this monumental site. The drive up to Monte Alban from Centro Historico is along narrow, winding roads; the driver of our van negotiated the winding curves expertly to get us to the site and back in a safe manner.

Exceptionnel - An exceptional experience! - Une expérience exceptionnelle !
Organisation parfaite du début à la fin : transfert ponctuel à la minute près depuis notre hôtel, ce qui est déjà an excellent sign of professionalism.
Visit du site archéologique a été tout simply superbe — un lieu unique, chargé d’histoire et d’émotions.
Antonio, notre guide mexicain a été remarqueable : il maîtrisait parfaitement l’espagnol et l’anglais et alternait les deux langues avec une aisance et une patience admirables. Ses explications, précises et passionnantes, reliaient habilement les différents peuples méso-américains et donnaient une profondeur incroyable à la visite.
Il partageait aussi une belle philosophie de vie, rendant l’expérience encore plus humaine et enrichissante.
Bravo et merci pour cette journée mémorable!

The visit to the archaeological site was simply wonderful — a unique place, full of history and excitement.
Our guide, Antonio, was extraordinary: he was perfectly fluent in Spanish and English, alternating between both languages with admirable patience and clarity. Their precise and exciting explanations brilliantly connected the different Mesoamerican peoples, bringing incredible depth to the visit. He also shared a beautiful philosophy of life, which made the experience even more humane and enriching.

Great introduction to indigenous culture and to this beautiful site - Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us wonderful information about this interesting and beautiful site. I was particularly interested in learning about the variety of prehispanic cultures in this area, and some insight into the various languages and traditions, with a focus on a proud Zapotec tradition.

Exactly what I was wanting - Very sunny so a hat and sunscreen are a must. Be prepared for stone stairs and uneven ground. There is a small museum, washrooms, a place to buy water and snacks and a restaurant on site. The tour was well organized, transport was excellent and the guide was great, very fluent. He collected money (or tickets people had purchased online) to purchase a group entrance ticket while folks had a chance to use the toilets. All very efficient.

Nice tour of Monte Alban - This was an excellent tour to visit Monte Alban and the length was perfect! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about both the nature surrounding the area as well as the site itself. The only small issue is that the van is very claustrophobic and I was in the back and couldn’t see out the windows as we drove, but the distance to the site was only about 1/2 hour so this wasn’t that big of an issue.

Must do when visiting Oaxaca - We actually changed from a half a day to a full day tour, and it was worth it.
Good slow pace to visit sites.

Monte Alban - I appreciated being able to go with a group as it made it easier to get there and return. The guide was pleasant and helpful as was the driver. I would have appreciated more time in the site and less in the museum entrance where he wanted to teach us words in his language and culture. I was there to learn about Monte Albán. We missed a good part of the far end of the site. I also thought I signed up for a four hour tour door to door but it was over 5 hours. I also thought I signed up for an English tour but it was in two languages so the explanations were not as deep and took twice as long.
