it was great visiting this USS Bowfin Submarine and Museum Tour, we all wished we could have had more time to spend. we incorporated it into the battle ships of world war two tour, so we had to juggle the time spent at all the museums and attractions.
Should not be missed. Gives real insight into the lives of our vetrans that served on these type vessels.
Good value for the money, especially compared with tickets for other Pearl Harbor exhibits!
Most of what I read is WWII history books. Of those, my favorite has always been reading about the submarine war patrols in the Pacific. Exploring the Bowfin was almost a religious experience for me. The first ti me through I didn't listen to the audio. Just wanted to take it all in as I remembered from all the books I have read. Then I went back through again with the audio which was excellent. It really brought it all together for me, imagining those young men down there going through their trials. I wanted to go back later in the day but was too worn out after the Arizona and Missouri tours.
I loved the museum and the headsets provided a great narrative. The staff working at the Bowfin were all just visiting with each other. No one was in line when we arrived to pick up our headsets, but none of the several employees even acknowledged us or responded when we tried to ask questions about taking the headsets. It was obvious that the employees all felt very secure in their jobs without providing any service or effort. There were no written instructions for using the headsets.
Great educational day for the kids, and interesting
We are Travellers from Germany. I was born 1955. It was a very interresting place. History to touch. A place that changed world politics - for Germany too.
Great museum, very informative and I loved the way you presented the USS Bowfin. Walking through the sub gave you an insight into living on board.
The USS BOWFIN submarine and museum were very well organized and offered a lot to see and do for all age groups. Definitely a worthwhile experience!
The Bowfin was very cool. A very unique experience to go inside a submarine and have the audio guide (included) to learn about all that you are seeing.
Fun for everyone and reservations were easy to obtain.
We were honored to visit the USS Bowfin. Our tour below the deck was an eye opening experience for someone that has never seen the inside of a submarine. Site staff were excellent and answered all of our questions. Thank you.
We enjoyed our experience very much. My grandpa was a submarine mechanic during the war and the Bowddin is one of the vessels he repaired/serviced. It was a special visit
It was a first visit for me in a submarine. It's interesting to learn how the submariners were living in this small space and have a chance to see all the control boards and equipment. I had a reservation but arrived quite late in the day after ticket office was closed, staff was very helpful and my group and I were able to make our visit. Tour is a bit short, but admission fee is accordingly. I did not use the audioguide so I can't comment on it. If you did this visit and enjoyed it, I strongly recommend you visit the USS Midway (aircraft carrier) in San Diego if you have a chance.
Wonderfully informative conversation with the tour guide on the sub ... I cannot recall his name but he was the older gentleman of 2, former Navy, of Japanese descent. He shared lots of stories, including how how his own family was impacted by Dec 7 attack (grandfather died) and I really enjoyed speaking with him. Nice to see the sub in early AM too, without the crowds around.
Found we were not rushed as we could do it at our own pace, and it was well displayed.
Submarine in great condition. Audio guide was very helpful and the nearby museum is great.
I enjoyed the combination of the submarine visit with the museum. Very well done.
The museum spaces are well laid out and maintained. The exhibits themselves are are interesting and very descriptive. The submarine is well maintained and excellent descriptions of the spaces are provided to the visitor. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. All in all it was a very educational and enjoyable visit. Thank you very much.
Very informative. Was able to explore at own pace.
Great staff awesome setting great day
Very thorough exhibit with many historical artifacts in the museum to supplement the submarine itself. The audio tours of both the submarine and museum were excellent and easy to operate. Everything was impeccably clean and well organized and the staff helpful and eager to assist with the experience by taking pictures and explaining parts of the exhibit. My wife and I came away with a very expanded knowledge of how submarine warfare assisted in ending the Pacific conflicts and an appreciation for all who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country.
Well kept, my father was on a similar sub. Very nice grounds.
