• Waimea Botanical Gardens, Oahu - Waimea Valley, on Oahu’s North Shore, is a site of historical and cultural significance. Swimming is permitted, with life vests provided at no extra cost. Entrance is $20 per adult. The 3/25 mile walk may not suit everyone; a golf cart ride is available for an additional $20 round trip per person. The path to the waterfall is rocky, so consider bringing reef or water shoes. Pacific Islanders historically walked barefoot through the valley in the 1800s.

• Dole Plantation - In 1899, James Dole, at 22, moved from Massachusetts to Honolulu and acquired 64 acres in Oahu’s central plains. After experimenting with various crops, he chose pineapple, launching a pineapple empire. Dole established canneries in Wahiawa and Honolulu Harbor, gaining nationwide popularity. The introduction of automatic pineapple peelers further boosted business. In 1950, a small fruit stand was set up in Dole’s fields. A plantation-style home was built in 1989, serving as an archive and living museum honoring James Dole’s legacy. Note that there won’t be time to ride the train or explore the maze due to long lines; the stop is limited to 30 minutes.

Built in 1882 by King Kalakaua, it was the residence of Hawaii’s last reigning monarchs and the political and social hub of the Kingdom until the monarchy’s overthrow in 1893. Registered as a National Historic Landmark since 1962, it is the only official royal residence in the United States.
• King Kamehameha Statue - The majestic statue of King Kamehameha I stands proudly in front of Ali’iolani Hale in Downtown Honolulu. It honors Kamehameha the Great, who unified all the islands and welcomed Westerners. A revered warrior and leader, he united Hawaii into a royal kingdom in 1810, promoting foreign trade and technology while avoiding foreign rule. The 18-foot bronze statue depicts him extending his hand in a welcoming gesture of aloha. King Kamehameha commissioned Ali’iolani Hale as the royal palace of the Hawaiian Monarchy. Built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style, its name means ‘House of the Heavenly King’. Ali’iolani Hale became an administrative building and now houses the Supreme Court of Hawaii and the Judiciary History Center.
