The sandbar is impressively expansive, measuring approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) in width and 3 miles (4.8 km) in length. Visitors can admire the lush, rolling Ko’olau Mountains on one side and the vast ocean horizon on the other. The sandbar itself is a ridge of soft, white sand that emerges during low tide.
Paddling from the He’eia Kea Boat Harbor to the Kaneohe Sandbar takes around 45 minutes. The water is a deep teal, and as you approach the sandbar, you can enjoy the beautiful gradient from dark blue-green to a brilliant white.
The Kaneohe Sandbar self-guided package includes a drybag and snorkeling gear, allowing you to bring your own drinks, snacks, sunscreen, and protective clothing for a comfortable and enjoyable day of adventure.

You’ll meet us over at the Active Oahu Tours storefront in Kailua. Please show up 15 minutes before your booking time. We will have your kayaks and gear all set and ready to go. All you need is a 4-door car to transport them. From here you will drive to the boat harbor which is 20 minutes away.

Michael was very pleasant... - Michael was very pleasant and accommodating. We had 2 people in our party not able to participate in the kayak activities, and he refunded us for them.
Even though we didn’t receive our fins and snorkels which was a bummer, I still gave them 5 stars for the aloha spirit.

Fantastic company - I cannot recommend Active Oahu more. We showed up in a non traditional vehicle and when they didn’t think they could get the kayaks on, they tried several different options to make it work. We thought we were out of luck when they offered us another excursion instead. We wanted to try for the sandbar and after looking one more time, they made it happen. It was not easy by any means but they never gave up in order for us to have the experience we wanted. The sandbar was amazing and it was all due to these amazing guys.

Best kayak service in Oahu! - We debated among several options for kayaking in Oahu, and we were so glad that we went with Active Oahu Tours! Such a friendly and supportive staff, clear instructions, and high-end kayak/gears. We made great memories on the sandbar and would 10/10 recommend.

Great experience - Great help getting everything we needed for our trip to the sandbar including directions. The sandbar was amazing and saw a turtle come right up to our kayak as we were approaching the sandbar. Highly recommend just make sure to use plenty of sunscreen.

Kaneohe sand bar - Very nice crew. One boat pretty beat up. Far from beach and from marina (5miles). Maps were incorrect.

Misleading and disappointed experience - We are extremely disappointed with this booking. We booked the Half-Day Kaneohe Bay Sandbar Self-Guided Kayaking Experience through Viator, but we did not realize until the last minute that this was completely self-guided and that there would be no guide out on the water with us to assist or accompany our group.
We were traveling with our two daughters, ages 17 and 12, who are both petite, and we did not feel comfortable or safe kayaking out to the sandbar completely on our own. Had it been made much clearer during the booking process that guests are essentially on their own once they head out, we would never have booked this activity in the first place.
What made the experience even more frustrating was that when we realized the situation and contacted them, they were unable to accommodate us with another option or provide a reasonable solution because it was considered a last-minute cancellation.
We understand that the activity is described as “self-guided,” but the actual experience and what that means should be made extremely clear and prominent, especially for families traveling with children. We were looking forward to visiting Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, and instead this became a stressful and disappointing experience. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this experience for families who are expecting a guided excursion or assistance while out on the water.
