Outstanding Cultural Museum:A Must Visit - The Bishop Museum is a must do for anyone seeking knowledge, history, and culture of Hawaii. During every early visit to Oahu, Honolulu, I or my wife and I make it a point to visit. This time I went solo. TripAdvisor indicates time visiting averages 2-3 hours. Depending what you want to learn, you could be there all day. During this visit, I met a docent named Mary. What a pleasure and wonderful lady. Hopefully you’ll meet her. What an incredible story how she arrived on the island, became a docent, and fell in love with the museum. Her story and love of baseball alone is worth an admission price. The grounds are impeccable. During this visit, I brought a small lunch, then just hung out eating lunch at a table, enjoyed the breeze and fresh air. Several people walked by and someone always said how lovely the grounds and museum was. You can further read about the museum and other places to visit on the grounds at their website. You can get to the museum on The Bus #2 and a straight shot 6 minute walk to the museum. If visiting Honolulu / Waikiki, there is more than the beach. Learn about the culture and history. And look for Mary.

Aussie Vacation - A good example of the history of Hawaii and it's people. Worth a visit to the planetarium and Tutu's place. You can take as long or as short as you like visiting the museum. Only issue is getting upand down the flights of stairs for each building and the exhibitions if you have sore knees or recent knee surgery.

Visited Bishop Museum in Honolulu late Feb 2026 as part of our vacation/1st time to Oahu adventure. - Bishop Museum visit in Oahu 2-26. First time to the island, came to explore, love history and origin stories. Lots to see and read in this beautiful old set of buildings. Learned a lot about the early Polynesian culture that settled the Hawaiian islands and about the succession of royalty, the unity of the island chain and eventual sale to the US. Some of the exhibits had been pulled for repairs I assume, and one whole building with the art collection was closed when we were there in late Feb. Still got to see a lot: recommended if you’re into the history of things like we are.

REGIONAL HISTORICAL EXPOSURE - We are always looking to explore local history when on vacation. The Museum will provide a very detailed history of the regional development and ancestorial evolution.

Nice afternoon - I visited the Bishop Museum and loved it. The museum is very well known in Hawaii and shows the history of the culture and nature of the islands in an exciting and understandable way. I found the exhibitions on volcanoes, the ocean and wildlife particularly impressive. The building itself is beautiful and the exhibitions are modern informative and varied. You learn a lot and it never gets boring. A highly recommended place for anyone who wants to better understand Hawaii. 🌺

Great history museum - An interesting insight into the history of the country before and after it became part of the USA. Glad we visited it before going to the Palace as it put things into perspective. Interesting exhibits but wish they had offered a two-day ticket (as at Pearl Harbour) as there was so much to see and you can only take in some much at one time. Senior tickets available - a rarity on the island!
